US-based Imax Corporation and Dubai’s Vox Cinemas, the Middle East’s largest cinema exhibitor, have announced a sales agreement for at least four new Imax theatres in Saudi Arabia.

The four theatres will be added to new multiplexes in Riyadh and other prime locations at some of the kingdom’s most prominent shopping malls including those owned by Vox Cinemas’ parent company, Majid Al Futtaim, a leading shopping mall, communities, retail and leisure pioneer across the region.

The first Imax theatre has opened at Vox Cinemas’ new four-screen multiplex at Riyadh Park Mall. In addition, Imax theatres will be featured at Vox Cinemas in Majid Al Futtaim’s City Centre Ishbiliyah and Mall of Saudi.

Vox Cinemas plans to invest SR2 billion ($533.3 million) to open 600 screens in Saudi Arabia over the next five years.

Meanwhile, Cinemacity, a leading cinema exhibitor in Saudi Arabia, has partnered with South Korea’s CJ 4DPLEX, the world’s first 4D cinema company, to open three 4DX locations in Riyadh and other major Saudi cities by the end of this year.

Al Qasr Mall will be the first multiplex in Riyadh, featuring 19 screens.
