Prince Turki Bin Talal, the Emir of the Asir region of Saudi Arabia, has announced the launch of several infrastructure projects worth billions of dollars in the Jazan area including the development of Abha Airport and setting up of a 1,000-bed medical centre in Asir region.

The projects include construction of the Asir-Jazan Road at a cost of SR6 billion ($1.59 billion), the expansion of the Jeddah-Jazan Coastal Road for SR4 billion ($1.06 billion) and the Abha Airport development project, reported Saudi Gazette. A 1,000-bed King Faisal Medical City is also being set up in Asir. The facility boasts a specialised hospital, cardiac centre, tumor centre and a unit for neurological sciences, in addition to specialty centres for children from the Asir, Baha, Najran and Jazan regions, it added.

The projects were unveiled by Prince Turki at a key ceremony held in the kingdom.
