The Big 5

Geotextile giant

King Abdullah Economic City ... an Alyaf project.

ALYAF Industrial Company, considered to be the largest manufacturer of geotextiles in the Middle East, will be showcasing its pioneering expertise in the development of technical nonwovens at The Big 5 Saudi Arabia.

Set up almost two decades ago, it is currently one of the few companies in the world to offer the widest possible range of nonwoven geotextiles all manufactured under one roof, claims Mohammed Abdeltawab, marketing services executive of the company.

Alyaf was incorporated in 1992 with a manufacturing facility located at the Second Industrial City of Dammam, and sales offices in Riyadh and Jeddah.

“Utilising the world’s most modern production facilities, Alyaf products are engineered to satisfy civil engineering applications including soil stabilisation for road and railway construction, asphalt pavement overlay, pipeline protection, shore protection, subsurface drainage, membrane protection, roofing systems, landfill and landscaping,” says Abdeltawab.

Alyaf’s range includes thermal-bonded geotextiles as well as needle-punched nonwoven geotextiles in polyester and polypropylene. This is complemented with geotextile widths of up to 6 m.

The standard range of products includes needle-punched nonwoven polyester geotextiles such as A1 Series, A1 XL range; the needle-punched nonwoven polypropylene geotextiles Alyaf XP; thermally-bonded and needle-punched nonwoven polypropylene Alyaf XS; polyester thermally set Alyaf TS; Alyaf PU (polyurethane) paving fabrics made from 100 per cent polyester fibre; the innovative three-dimensional Alfweb cellular confinement system; and a wide range of nonwoven polyester reinforcement mats.

The entire product range is manufactured under strict quality system procedures that have been certified in accordance with ISO 9001:2008. Products are continually tested to both ISO and ASTM standards, according to the spokesman. "To enable this, Alyaf has invested in a state-of-the-art specialised geotextile testing facility. Furthermore, Alyaf geotextiles are regularly tested at accredited independent geotextile testing laboratories in Europe and the US,” he adds.

Alyaf has supplied more than 250 million sq m of geotextiles that include all major applications of geotextiles for prestigious projects spread across the region. Some of these include soil stabilisation for King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Kaust) project and Shaiyabah Oman Road in Saudi Arabia; road construction in the Mesaieed area of Qatar; asphalt overlays for Seeb International Airport  in Oman and at Sharjah Airport; ports, quay walls, shore protection and canal lining at Khalifa Port  in Abu Dhabi, Salalah Port in Oman and Shoiba power plant in Saudi Arabia; landfill for projects in Saudi Arabia and Qatar; membrane protection for Burj Khalifa in Dubai; and sewerage networks for a roads project in Bani Hajer in Qatar and public housing project in Al Ain (UAE).

“At Alyaf, we believe in offering comprehensive geosynthetic solutions to our valued customers. Our techno-commercial solutions are backed by more than 18 years of experience in this region,” says Abdeltawab.

The company has a qualified team of engineers based at its headquarters in Dammam and branches at Riyadh and Jeddah to provide site-specific design solutions backed by engineering calculations.

“As a responsible corporate member of the International Society of Geosynthetics, Alyaf regularly conducts seminars across the region to disseminate technical information on geotextiles,” he adds.

Alyaf would be exhibiting at The Big 5 in Jeddah at Stand E103.
