AL OSAIS Transportation & Road Construction Company has completed 70 per cent of its work on a major site development project in Mardumah, Saudi Arabia.

Work on the contract, which started in December 2010, is eight per cent ahead of schedule, says a company spokesman. It is targeted for completion by April 2013.

The project mainly involves backfilling, entailing a volume of 7.5 million cu m of backfill. The scope also includes demolition of four existing Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic) camps, which are massive concrete structures spread over an area of 42,000 sq m, and existing private recreational camps that cover an area of 500,000 sq m. The hauling distance between the borrow area and the site is approximately 40 km.

About 90 trailers, 17 dozers, 15 loaders, 10 water tankers, five rollers, three graders and two excavators are currently employed on the 450-hectare site.

“If everything goes to plan, we expect the project to be completed six months ahead of schedule,” the spokesman says, adding that work is being carried out in accordance with the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu’s quality and safety standards.
