Raimondi supports tower project

Raimondi, a leading designer and producer of cranes, has completed the installation of the last of the 10 tower cranes supplied to a mixed lifestyle project in Istanbul, Turkey.

Raimondi employed its flat top models of cranes in the Istanbul Marina project being developed and built by Dap Yapi Construction, one of the largest construction companies in Turkey.

The Italy-based company supplied tower cranes such as MRT 144, MRT 111 and SRT 85 models for building towers that rose to more than 150 m. MRT 144 has a lifting capacity of 10 tonnes whereas MRT 111 has eight, and SRT, six tonnes.

Raimondi said these flat top model cranes have an advantage of being erected and operated in close proximity to each other and thereby solve most of the difficulties faced by the contractors due to space limitation at construction sites.

Istanbul Marina comprises 1,463 luxurious housing units, brand hotels, restaurants and shopping outlets with comprehensive facilities in an aesthetically designed landscape.

Terex and Khudairi Group sign deal

Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWP), a business segment of the Terex Corporation, has signed an agreement with the Khudairi Group to distribute Genie products in Iraq.

The agreement enables the Khudairi Group to supply Genie self-propelled scissor lifts, articulating and telescoping booms, telehandlers, portable material lifts, aerial work platforms, light towers and trailer mounted booms. As a full service provider, the Khudairi Group will support Genie product line sales with preventative maintenance contracts, in addition to a stock of spare parts, to help maximise equipment ‘up-time.’ 

This partnership is expected to combine Genie’s world-class equipment and manufacturing practices with the group’s local capabilities and experience on the ground in Iraq.

With facilities in Baghdad, Basrah, Erbil, and Sulaymania, Khudairi Group is a leading provider of heavy machinery solutions for the top industries in Iraq.

Hill wins Doha resort contract

Hill International, a global leader in managing construction risk, said it has secured a contract to provide project management consultancy services for an upcoming resort in Doha, Qatar.

Worth $2.3 million, the two-and-a-half-year pact has been awarded by Contraco.

To be built on 257 acres of land, the Salwa Resort will feature 362 guest rooms, a water park, marina, dive centre, cinema, retail space, pools and spa.

Long-stay medical complex on way

Bahrain’s Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Ministry has awarded the consultancy services contract for design and supervision of the Muharraq Long-Stay Care Centre, a medical complex to be developed in the country.

The project belongs to the Health Ministry and is funded by the Gulf Development Programme with a total cost of BD544,000 ($1.43 million), said Mona Al Muttawa, the assistant under-secretary for construction projects and maintenance at the ministry.

The medical complex will be developed in three phases. In Phase One, a long-stay care centre with the capacity to accommodate 100 beds will be constructed, stated Al Muttawa. The centre will also include a reception area for emergency cases, wings and rooms for cerebral palsy patients in addition to an isolation unit for those with infectious diseases, a lab, pharmacy, x-ray rooms, sterilisation units and a central building for non-medical services.

Phase Two will see the setting up of a maternity hospital with 110 beds, while the final phase will include the construction of a proposed centre for patients with multiple sclerosis, she added.

Riffa Views vows to complete work

A key ministerial committee has removed the luxury Riffa Views project from the list of stalled development schemes.

The ministerial committee for construction and infrastructure said the decision was made on the basis of clear commitments made by Riffa Views management to the plan worked out last March.

Chaired by Deputy Premier Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, the committee said the management would soon complete the stalled work under the first phase of the plan with the aim of handing over units to buyers.

The project includes a residential bloc comprising 1,056 villas, in addition to a Golf course, a school, sport academies, retail shops and restaurants.

Wartsila to build power plant

Wartsila, a global market leader in gas-fired combustion engine power plants, has joined hands with Musandam Power Company to build a 120-MW power plant in Oman. 

The smart power generation plant, to come up in the Musandam region of Oman, will be fully operational by late next year, said Isam Al Zadjali, the CEO of Oman Oil Company, the majority owner of Musandam Power Company.

The multiple engine design enables ultra-flexible operations, such as responding to load variations between 10 MW and 120 MW. Wartsila said it will deliver the power plant on a turnkey basis.

Oman to start causeway bridge study

Oman is set to soon start a landmark study into the feasibility of constructing a major causeway bridge linking Masirah Island with the mainland on the sultanate’s eastern coast, reported the Oman Observer.

The move comes roughly 18 months after the formal awarding of a consultancy contract by the Ministry of Transport and Communications to a joint venture between Omani consultancy services firm National Engineering Office and Korean groups Dohwa Engineering and Pyunghwa Engineering Consultants.

Oman is mooting the establishment of a dual-carriage bridge, as well as pedestrians and cyclists.

Revamp planned for Bahrain highway

A major expansion of a road near Hamala, which has been the scene of numerous bottlenecks, accidents and fatalities, has been outlined.

Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Minister Essam Khalaf said the proposal to revamp Wali Al Ahd Highway was in the planning stage.

He said that it will see the Buri roundabout removed, while new lanes will be built.

Omran invites bids for HQ project

Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran) has issued tenders for the construction of its headquarters and annexe building at the upcoming business park in the sultanate, said a report.

The new set of tenders are for the construction, completion, handing over, testing and commissioning and maintenance of the Omran headquarters and the annexe building at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC).

Omran has also invited tenders for direct sub-contracting for the supply, installation, testing and commission of security, telephone and other advanced systems for OCEC Package Seven – Hotel Two,  reported the Times of Oman.

GCC to launch unified building code

The GCC countries are working on a unified building code which will be launched in the second quarter of 2016, reported The Peninsula.

Based on international best practices, it is a standard unified regional code that will be applied to building and construction projects throughout GCC states. The region’s municipal ministers agreed on recommendations at a key meeting held in Doha.
