The contract to build the ambitious Dubai Textile City project is likely to be awarded by the end of this month.

Fourteen companies are re-tendering for the project, which will come up on the Al-Aweer-Hatta road. The lowest bidder at in the first tender in January last year was United Engineering Construction Company (UNEC) at Dh178.8 million ($49 million), a report said.

The project entails the construction of 66 warehouses and showrooms over an area of 238,887 sq m, loading bays and car-parks. It also involves the construction of a gateway building with a built-up area of 4,847 sq m, ancillary buildings and related road and infrastructure works.

The establishment of the DTC will not only organise the country's textile trade, but it will also lead to the offering top-class trading amenities for buyers and sellers in the region.
