Red Sea Global and global utility major Acwa Power have announced the Project Commercial Operation Date (PCOD) for a utilities project serving The Red Sea destination, thus marking the start of a 25-year concession to operate an integrated system powered entirely by renewable energy.

The project company, Marafiq Red Sea for Energy, signed a commercial operation certificate with Red Sea Utilities Company, a subsidiary of Red Sea Global. MRSEC was established by Acwa Power in partnership with SPIC Huanghe Hydropower and Saudi Tabreed.

The project combines five core services in a single system: renewable energy, potable water, wastewater treatment, district cooling and waste management.

Electricity is generated by a 340 MW alternating-current solar photovoltaic plant integrated with a battery energy storage system with a capacity of 1,227 megawatt-hours.

The developers said the battery facility is the world’s largest off-grid battery storage system, allowing the destination to continue receiving renewable power after sunset.

Meanwhile, RSG has announced the opening of two premier developments at Amaala - Jayasom Wellness Resort Amaala and Nammos Resort Amaala - thus bringing a distinctive holistic health offering and contemporary luxury to the destination.

Designed by Heah & Co, with interiors by Studio Carter, Jayasom Wellness Resort Amaala is located on Triple Bay’s largest cove and comprises 153 keys alongside 24 residences, said RSG in a statement.

The resort forms part of Amaala’s secluded wellness core on the Red Sea coast, where nature and hospitality come together in a setting designed for reflection and renewal.

The resort is divided into an adults-only wellness offering and a dedicated experience for families. The adult-only zone provides a sanctuary focused on holistic therapies, physiotherapy, fitness and Pilates, while the family experiences feature age-specific facilities and activities designed to support connection, movement and healthy habits, it stated.

Nammos Resort Amaala, a 110-key luxury resort with 20 private residences located on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast, marks the launch of Nammos’ first resort hotel globally and a significant addition to Amaala’s growing lifestyle and hospitality offering.

Designed by the renowned architectural firm Foster + Partners, the resort seamlessly integrates contemporary luxury with the natural beauty of the destination.
