Work starts on mega towers complex
Dubai:
Piling work is now under way for the 40-tower Jumeirah Beach Residential complex with 450,000 cu m of sand being excavated from the site in Dubai.

The building is due for completion by 2005 and forms a major part of the Dubai Marina development.
Contractors have now begun to mobilise equipment to start work on the 22.5 million sq ft project, said Hashim Al Dabal, chief executive of Estithmar Realty, project developer.

Etisalat varsity work under way
Abu Dhabi:
The construction of the Dh120 million ($32.9 million) first phase of Etisalat University is under way and will be completed in July 2004 while the second phase will be completed in early 2005.
The project is located at the University City, in southern UAE,  and between Sharjah University and American University.
The whole project involves two phases. Phase one includes the buildings of the administration and the colleges. Phase two includes the student, university staff and professors' hostel, the sports and recreational centre and other utilities.

Municipality okays 299 projects
Sharjah:
The Sharjah Municipality approved 299 construction licences in June.
The municipality approved 60 multi-storeyed buildings, 99 housing units and four mosques. It also sanctioned 18 applications for adjustments to building licences, said a municipality report.
The engineering section at the Sharjah Municipality finalised more than 983 construction applications for building fences in different areas along with maintenance services.

Sharjah ring road work progresses
Sharjah:
Work on the Sharjah ring road project which began three months ago, is progressing steadily, reports said.
'The work on the ring road will be done in stages so as not to disrupt the traffic,' Khawla Al Noman, director general of the Department of Public Works in Sharjah said.
Work on phase one of the project on Al Arouba Road, between Al Khaleej Roundabout and Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khadim Roundabout, was completed at the end of last month. It will be opened to traffic in both directions this month.
In the second phase, Al Khaleej flyover and Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khadim flyover will also be expanded, he added. Design work for the second phase  - which comprises two parts and extends from the Fifth Industrial Roundabout to Wasit Station and from Wasit Station to Al Tawuun Road in Al Mamzar area - is under way.
