UAE consortium grabs DSC deal
Dubai:
A consortium of three leading UAE businessmen have enterered into a contract with the Dubai Tourism Projects Development Company, a firm set up to manage the various projects of Dubailand, to build the Dubai Sports City (DSC).

The Dh2.7 billion ($735 million) DSC, a multi-purpose facility covering an area of 80 million sq ft, is part of the $5 billion Dubailand project. 
The businessmen involved in the consortium are Abdul Rahim Al Zarooni, Abdul Rahman Falaknaz and Abdul Rahman Bukhatir.
The project will be built in two phases.

Saqr to get new harbour
Ras Al Khaimah:
Port Saqr in Ras Al Khaimah is to set up a new harbour, which will specialise in container handling, said officials. Captain Ibrahim Al Tunaiji, the port's executive manager, said the new port would be equipped with all necessary infrastructure including suitable platforms and giant cranes.
According to a report, the new port would increase its depth to 14 m, instead of the current 12.2 m, to enable larger ships carrying more than 100,000 tonnes to use the port. He stressed that all the related facilities of Port Saqr will be improved accordingly, to meet the needs of investors.
The installation of the new computer network in the port will be completed soon, so as to provide investors with all the necessary data and information. Port Saqr has just purchased a giant crane. It will set up a new 10,000 sq m warehouse, taking the number of warehouses to five.

Work begins on Sharjah ring road 
Sharjah:
Work on the Dh200 million ($54.49 million) first phase of the Sharjah Ring Road has begun, according to a senior official.
Khawla Al Moala, director-general of the Sharjah Directorate of Public Works, said construction work will be completed by November, 2004.
About Dh625 million will be spent to construct the Sharjah Ring Road, which will encircle the emirate with a 42.5-km-long highway.
'Motorists coming from Dubai and heading to Ras Al Khaimah or Ajman constitute about 40 per cent of the traffic heading into the city of Sharjah, according to traffic studies,' Al Moala said.

Ladies' beach to be expanded
Abu Dhabi:
The Abu Dhabi Ladies' Beach will undergo a Dh35 million ($9.5 million) expansion. The project which will cover an area of 189,000 sq m on the Ras Al Akhdar shore and will have three separate entrances that will lead to different expansion areas.

Three projects of $33m approved
Dubai:
Three projects worth Dh119.2 million ($33 million) have been approved by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler and Minister of Finance and Industry.
The projects include improvements to the third interchange on Sheikh Zayed Road, construction of pavements in the Jumeirah area and providing consultative services to Hatta Women's Renaissance Society.
The third interchange project entailing a Dh96.9 million outlay involves replacement of the existing interchange that allows the road to be expanded into five lanes. The new interchange will link Sheikh Zayed Road with Khail and Umm Suqeim roads, and with Al Quoz Industrial Area through Manara Road. The Jumeirah pavement project is estimated at Dh21.7 million.

Work on DMCC begins
Dubai:
Construction work has begun on Dubai Metals and Commodities Centre's (DMCC) manufacturing complex, officials announced.
With an estimated 80 per cent of all DMCC manufacturing units already booked, this state-of-the-art production facility will house an international portfolio of gold, diamond and jewellery manufacturers.
Construction of the manufacturing units on the 300-hectare site will be completed by the end of next year, said officials.
Gold, diamond and commodities manufacturers can buy premises in the complex. Resident manufacturers are offered a secure regulated environment, special freight rates, a 50-year tax holiday and ownership of the premises.

Concorde Tower work in January
Dubai:
Construction work on the new Dh310 million ($84.5 million ) Concorde Tower in Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai, is expected to start in January 2004.
32Group Properties, the real estate development arm of 32Group is the owner, developer and seller of the project. The Concorde is a 45-storey residential tower, with a contemporary glass facade comprising studio, one and two-bedroom apartments, duplexes and lofts.

Work on $10m water plant begins
Ras Al Khaimah:
Construction work on the new Dh37 million ($10 million) Ghalilah water desalination station north of Ras Al Khaimah has started.
The project, which will pump three million gallons per day of desalinated seawater using reverse osmosis techniques, will be completed by the first half of next year.
Currently, Ras Al Khaimah has a desalination capacity of six million gallons per day produced by the emirate's four desalination stations, three of which are based in Al Nakheel, while the fourth is in Burairat.
