The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the third stage of Dolphin Energy project is expected to be awarded by the year-end.
The contract will involve designing and construction of the facilities at Al Taweelah in Abu Dhabi, where Qatari gas would be received and distributed to the various parts of the country.
Dolphin Energy aims to construct a 370-km, 48-inch pipeline between Qatar and the UAE by 2006 and to produce, process and transport 2 billion cu ft of natural gas per day (bcf/d) via this pipeline, increasing to 3.2 bcf/d at a later stage.
The engineering aspects of the project are of great importance and these are handled in stages. The initial stage will involve drilling, extraction and processing of the gas, mid-stage involves compression and transportation of the gas and the final stage will involve distribution to customers.
The EPC award for the fabrication, installation and hook-up of the two offshore production platforms in the North Field has gone to J Ray McDermott Middle East.
