DANUBE Building Materials’ Dh50 million ($14 million) factory project in TechnoPark is moving ahead full steam.

The 1.3-million-sq-ft industrial complex is designed to support the company’s expansion plan in the coming years and, upon completion, will comprise seven state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and a massive custom-designed warehouse to store a wide range of structural steel and wood products. The new facility, to be completed in phases, will be functional by early 2011.
The seven facilities include a melamine MDF (medium-density fibreboard) pressing plant, impregnation and décor plyline facility, gypsum tile cutting plant, gypsum ceiling tile manufacturing plant, gypsum board stud and track plant, glass tempering and polishing plant, and an aluminium profile manufacturing plant.
The new development follows the recent opening of a 365,000-sq-ft facility in Jafza South, which includes a high-class warehouse, kiln drying facility for seasoning of wood and high-tech joinery, to meet the exponential growth the company has been witnessing in the past few years.
“The facility in TechnoPark demonstrates our commitment to our customers in the Middle East,” said Rizwan Sajan, chairman, Danube Building Materials. “In addition to increasing our manufacturing capabilities, we also intend to expand our retail presence in the region and have planned 10 new Buildmart branches in 2010.”
Meanwhile, Danube Building Materials last month opened a Dh15 million ($4 million) Buildmart in Bawadi Mall, Al Ain, its second retail showroom within a mall.
Launched by Khalifa Abdullah Al Dhaheri, acting director, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI), Al Ain branch, this latest venture will cater to individual homeowners and designers, and is part of Danube’s Dh100 million ($27.2 million) expansion plans for its retail complex chain. Danube Building Materials will aim to further strengthen its presence in the UAE and the GCC as a whole by opening more such outlets.
Spanning an area of 15,000 sq ft, Buildmart offers products from a host of reputed international and regional vendors under a single roof, including chandeliers, wallpaper collections, curtains, carpets, luxury sanitary ware, Venetian blinds, wooden flooring, garden accessories, home décor and soft furnishings such as quilts, mattresses, towels pillow covers among others.
The store also has a design centre, where customers can take floor plans of their houses and benefit from expert advice from consultants and after sales services from Danube’s interior design experts.
The company will open its next Buildmart outlet at the Ibn Battuta Mall in Dubai and intends to launch another outlet in Dalma Mall, Mussaffah, Abu Dhabi next month, according to Sajan.
