WORK is progressing rapidly on the Jebel Ali M power and desalination station in Dubai, UAE.
Due for completion this year, the Station M project will add 2,000 MW of power and 140 million gallons of desalinated water to Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (Dewa) generation capacity, which will reach a total of 9,643 MW of power and 470 million gallons of desalinated water per day.
This station is one of Dewa’s biggest projects with cost exceeding Dh10 billon ($2.7 billion).
The second quarter will see the commissioning of four gas turbines, two auxiliary boilers and one steam turbine, in addition to the units that were put into service last year.
These units included two gas turbines – each with a capacity of 234 MW – added during the first quarter of last year. In addition, two desalination units, each with a capacity of 17.5 million gallons, and one auxiliary boiler were also brought on stream.
The station will be working at its full capacity by the end of this year.
In addition to the construction of the co-generation plant, the overall project includes three 400-kV substations, overhead lines and associated works.
