THE Abu Dhabi Municipality plans to develop and operate a high-end beach club to further enhance the city’s coastline and beachfront facilities and will shortly launch a tender to private sector bidders in this regard.

To be developed on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) arrangement, the beach club will afford a selection of new amenities for both the public and beach club members and also offers an opportunity for city centre hotels without beach access to offer guests a membership.

The beach club will be located at one of the most desirable beach locations in the city at The Lagoons Beach near West Plaza, forming part of the city’s Phase Two corniche expansions.

The beach club will upgrade the existing facilities through an array of middle to high-end food and beverage brands that will be open to the public.

Members will have access to the beach and a range of activities including outdoor pools, health club, decking area, water sports facilities and a children’s play area. There will also be ample parking and underpass pedestrian access.

Rashed bin Ali Al Omaira, advisor investments and assets for the general manager’s office at Abu Dhabi City Municipality, said the project “presents an exciting opportunity for the private sector and will continue to enhance the corniche, which is already a popular attraction”.
