DRAKE and Scull International (DSI) has signed a Dh415-million ($113 million) contract to execute the complete MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) works for the iconic Louvre Museum project in Abu Dhabi.
The contract was awarded by Asolouvre JV – an Arabtec Construction (Arabtec)-led joint venture with Constructora San Jose and Oger Abu Dhabi that has been appointed by master developer Abu Dhabi Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) as the main contractor of the project.
The scope of work for this contract will be executed in co-ordination with Habtoor Leighton Specon and includes all MEP works and incidentals on the project scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2015.
Asolouvre was awarded the Dh2.4-billion ($653.42 million) contract in January this year to construct the Louvre Abu Dhabi, which is located in the Saadiyat Cultural District and is scheduled to be inaugurated in 2015.
With a built-up area of 64,000 sq m, Louvre Abu Dhabi is conceived as a complex of pavilions, plazas, alleyways and canals, evoking the image of a city floating on the sea.
Meanwhile, DSI has won a Dh251-million ($68 million) engineering contract to execute electro-mechanical works for the hardscape and landscape components of a major government facility in Abu Dhabi, scheduled to be completed in 2014.
The company has secured Dh6.1-billion ($1.66 billion) worth of projects across the region year to date, according to Khaldoun Tabari, CEO of DSI. It also won a contract recently for an iconic Fairmont hotel in Abu Dhabi.
