Construction is poised to start on two zones at  Dubai World Central (DWC), following the completion of grading work for its aviation zone and the handover of residential plots for construction.

The 140-sq-km DWC has also launched Phase Three sales of DWC Residential City – its mid-income housing zone – following the successful sales of Phase One and Two.
A  multi-phase urban land development centred around the world’s largest airport – DWC-Al Maktoum International Airport – DWC last month handed over the first plots of land to private developers to commence construction on their respective projects.
The 483-plot Dh8 billion DWC Residential City will include a mix of five to 10-storey mid-cost apartment blocks, housing around 250,000 people through five phases and employing around 20,000 more. The commencement of construction means that future residents can look at moving into their apartments by end of next year.
Meanwhile, grading work on the fourth phase of DWC has been completed at a cost of Dh46 million ($12.5 million), enabling contractor access to a crucial component of the project – DWC Aviation City – which is expected to be operational by 2010-11.
The $1.36 billion DWC Aviation City will be home to DWC’s executive jet terminal and the world’s largest MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) centre, with many operators ready to start construction on-site.
All four grading phases were carried out by Dubai-based Trident Transport Company.
DWC has also commenced Phase Five of the grading work, which is expected to be completed by July next year. This will cover areas adjacent to the first runway.  The construction of the passenger terminal is on schedule for completion in mid-2009.
Comprising six zones – Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai Logistics City (DLC), Aviation City, Commercial City, Residential City and Golf City – the $33-billion DWC will be fully operational between 2015 and 2020.
