Hamm ... on a roll.

The orange rollers from Hamm, a leading German manufacturer of rollers for earthworks and asphalt paving, are a distinctive feature of major construction sites in the Gulf region, where the company has been actively supplying these compactors for over 25 years.

The outstanding quality of the machines and the excellent service have ensured that Hamm is now the frontrunner in the marketplace, says a spokesperson for Hamm.
“One of the special features – which is one of the factors that ensure the success of our rollers – is their simple, logical operation and user-friendly design. We always focus attention on the operator as well as on high compaction and optimum productivity when developing a new machine,” he says. “This philosophy has given rise to rollers that have always set new trends and convinced customers through their extremely simple and logical operation.  This Hamm hallmark is impressively underscored by the numerous distinctions awarded for user-friendly design.”

Robust technology
The robust technology of Hamm rollers is another very important factor behind the German manufacturer's success.  This technology helps the rollers to work highly effectively in the desert sands and the high temperatures of the Gulf region.
“Many rollers have already been in use for many years and have demonstrated their reliability every single day.  The reason lies in the excellent workmanship and use of high-quality materials and components, together with world-famous German engineering and the high standard of training for fitters in the production shop at Hamm.” The spokesman points out.

Dealer network
The company’s own network of dealers in the Gulf region includes Genavco in the UAE, Araco in Qatar, Genserv in Oman, Bakheet Company in Saudi Arabia, Al Zabin in Kuwait, Synergy in Bahrain, Wirtgen Qeshm in Iran, Hawk International in Yemen and ACE in Egypt.
“The sales and service staff of these experienced construction equipment machinery dealers regularly receive thorough training at the German headquarters to ensure that they are always right up-to-date with the latest information,” says the spokesperson. “Their comprehensive know-how is passed on effective to their customers in the Gulf region – another milestone in Hamm's successful concept.
The close-meshed network of dealers, service stations and repair shops makes it possible to provide optimum and rapid support for customers throughout the Gulf region.  The services provided range from advising customers when buying a machine and also with regard to the applications technology, through a complete range of maintenance services to repairs by qualified experts and rapid delivery of spare and wearing parts.

Major projects
Thanks to the reputation for reliability of these rollers, many major contractors have invested in tandem rollers from the HD series, rubber-wheeled GRW rollers and single-drum compactors from Hamm's Series 3000, which are working at a number of project sites such as the construction and extension of the Dubai, Jebel Ali and Abu Dhabi airports, expansion of Garhoud Bridge and road construction in Dubai and other cities of the UAE, as well as major projects throughout the entire Gulf region.
Series 3000
The Series 3000 rollers are powerful single-drum compactors with operating weights of between 5 and 25 tonnes, which stand out due to their extremely simple operation with a clearly laid out control panel on the driver’s platform, the spokesman says.  Outstanding compaction performance and an exceedingly comfortable ride for the operator are possible due to a three-point swivel joint, a special feature on this series which gives directional stability when driving and compacting, even on rough ground, he points out.
“An innovative ventilation system ensures that the engine is effectively cooled even at high ambient temperatures.  What makes this system special is that the fresh air is drawn in above the engine cowling, which ensures that the air intake is clean, preventing sand and other ground-level particles from reaching the air filter or engine.  A sophisticated maintenance design concept ensures rapid servicing as the cooling water and oil filter, the air and fuel filters can be reached from one side and be checked or replaced quickly,” he says.
Hamm’s latest offering, the CompactLine series comprises 10 small tandem rollers with operating weights from 1.4 tonne to 4.2 tonne and having a working width ranging from 80 cm in the HD 8 roller to 1.40 m in the HD 14 roller.
“The machines ensure outstanding visibility, excellent ergonomics and driving comfort, compact size and excellent compaction performance.  Their extremely high compaction force is particularly impressive when using dynamic compaction with vibration, which is considerably higher than with any other roller in this class,” he adds.
Easy handling makes the roller operator’s job easier as the operation of the rollers can be learned intuitively.  The display is based on symbols that can be understood by operators of any nationality that helps to improve the quality of the work and safety on site, particularly in the case of small tandem rollers, which are frequently used by several operators.
The CompactLine rollers can be used on practically every type of terrain and soil, are particularly suitable for compacting jobs in non-cohesive soil in parks and landscaping for example, in coarse or fine gravel and sand; paths and courtyards for golf courses; substrates and asphalt courses for public roads, private paths and entrance roads; and asphalt pavements in multi-storey car parks, parking decks or halls and underground car-parks.
