

BAHRA Cables, an affiliate of Construction Products Holding Company, has won a contract to supply medium-voltage cables worth SR300 million ($80 million) for the first phase of the new King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) project in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
“This mega project confirms that our cables are capable of meeting the needs of major construction companies rather than having to import from abroad,” says Talal Idriss, CEO of Bahra Cables.
Bahra Cables produces high-, medium- and low-voltage cables, which are fire resistant and do not emit smoke or toxic and suffocating gases in case of fire or electric circuit shortage.
“The company has acquired several certifications including Kema, IPH, Saso, LPCB, CSA, Basec, and others for its production of power cables,” says Idriss.
It also has ISO 9001:2008 certification for its collection of medium- and high-voltage cables up to 132 kV.
Bahra Cables claims the distinction of being the first Saudi cable manufacturer to have achieved ISO 14001: 2004, and Ohsas 18001:2007 standards.
The first phase of the King Abdulaziz International Airport project will take 24 months to complete and will accommodate 30 million passengers annually.
Bahra Cables was founded in 2008 as a joint venture with Electric House to serve the Saudi, GCC and other markets. The company’s headquarters is located at CPC Industrial City, 25 km from Jeddah. Its plant for power cables occupies an area of 300,000 sq m including manufacturing, designing and storage facilities.
Bahra Cables is specialised in the production and distribution of power wires and cables, and aims to become the main developer for low-, medium-, and high-voltage cables in Saudi Arabia.
It also plans to expand its range of products through manufacturing of various copper products such as copper tapes and connectors to serve the electrical manufacturing sector.
The company has built advanced production lines to supply high-quality products, It recently started its own factory for the production of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) used for insulation and cable sheathing. The design, systems and management of its production facilities are supported by German technology.
Bahra Cables has been classified as one of the top 100 fastest-growing companies in Saudi Arabia by the “Saudi Fast Growth Awards” initiative.
The initiative, launched in 2008 by the Private Sector Initiatives Programme of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (Sagia), assesses the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises and highlights that key segment of the private sector.
