Kuwait's Ministry of Public Works has awarded a contract worth KD149 million ($488 million) to Turkish construction company Kuzu Group for building a hybrid-energy wastewater treatment plant for the South Al Mutlaa city project.
The scope of work includes design, installation, operation and maintenance of renewable energy systems (solar, wind, biogas).
As per the deal, the ministry will be using a hybrid system combining conventional and renewable energy sources.
Once operational, it will boast a total capacity of 400,000 cu m per day and cater to the over 28,000 housing units within the Al Mutlaa city project located in northern Kuwait, about 40 km from Kuwait City, said the ministry.
The facility, which will be completed in 2030, will be one of the few sustainable infrastructure projects not only in Kuwait but also in the world, as a pioneering model with the use of alternative energy, it added.
