Jeddah Tower, Saudi Arabia’s landmark mega-tall mixed-use tower, has achieved a major construction milestone reaching 430 m this month. With a planned height of over 1,000m, the skyscraper will become the tallest building in the world once completed.

It serves as the centrepiece of the broader Jeddah Economic City, a 57-million-sq-ft development designed to reposition the kingdom as a premier global hub for business and luxury tourism.

The project is being developed by Jeddah Economic Company (JEC), a prominent Saudi real estate development firm backed heavily by Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal’s Kingdom Holding Company, a major international investment firm. 

The JEC is managing the project in co-operation with renowned architects Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill Architecture and engineers from Thornton Tomasetti and Langan International. 

Following a visit to the construction site, where he met with the project’s teams, Prince Alwaleed said the Jeddah Tower project was progressing well.

“The structure has now reached 430 m out of its planned height of more than 1,000 m,” he stated, reaffirming his commitment to “complete the world's tallest tower.”

For the project, Thornton Tomasetti is providing structural design services to Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, combining bespoke high-performance designs with advanced structural systems and materials, in close co-ordination with the project team, including Langan Engineering & Environmental Services, RWDI, Dar and Saudi Binladin Group (SBG).

Once completed, Jeddah Tower is expected to surpass Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, becoming the first skyscraper to exceed 1-km in height. The mixed-use tower will boast residences, a luxury hotel, office spaces and the world’s highest observation decks.
