Riyadh-based Saudi American Glass Factory (SAGF) continues to offer innovative solutions to the highly demanding requirements of its discerning clients.
Citing a recent example of how SAGF rose to the challenge, a senior executive at SAGF, says: "The chief architect of a major new hotel being designed for the Western Province of Saudi Arabia approached Saudi American Glass Factory with the following requirements:
Saudi American Glass Factory offered a solution using one of its latest and most popular products, he says.
Elaborating on how this was achieved, he says: "A design, selected by the architect, is silk screen-printed onto clear or tinted glass using a special oil-based ceramic frit paint in the colour also chosen by the architect. The glass is then heat-treated to fire the ceramic frit paint permanently into the surface of the glass.
''This technique offers endless possibilities. For example, the architect for the hotel produced an Islamic design with green ceramic frit paint printed onto clear glass. The glass is then coated with one of SAGF's high-performance KLite coatings before being fabricated into insulating glass units (doubleglazing). From the outside, the building will appear to have windows glazed in KLite high-performance insulating glass like numerous others in the Kingdom, while on the inside, the glass will have a unique design to enhance the beauty of the hotel's foyer and public rooms.
''Other designers have chosen to laminate the screenprinted glass to a panel of clear glass for use in distinctive glass screens in restaurants or partitions in offices. The additional security provided by the laminated glass has proved to be a further benefit.
''The process of screen printing on glass - originally developed for use in automobiles and domestic appliances - has now been further developed to facilitate its use in exciting architectural applications.''
SAGF's unique ability to apply its KLite high-performance glass coating to designed glass opens up new opportunities to architects and designers to give its clients something really special, he points out.
''With this development, Saudi American Glass Factory has marked yet another milestone in its constant drive to offer products that satisfy the needs of the market - both in Saudi Arabia and beyond. From airports in Yemen to hotels in India, to offices in Lebanon, to entertainment centres in the UAE, the list is almost endless.
''K-Lite high-performance glass is helping to keep solar heat out of not only some of the region's most prestigious buildings such the Al Faisaliah and Kingdom centres in Riyadh but also several private houses and villas. The residents of a wide variety of palaces, villas and houses are currently enjoying the comfort and solar protection afforded by high-performance glass while their air-conditioning costs are considerably reduced.
''Laminated KLite glass in four attractive colours is now available at very competitive prices in stock sheets to local distributors throughout the region. The stock sheets can be cut to size immediately after orders are received from customers.
''Villa owners can thus benefit from the beauty, comfort, energy savings and solar protection of high-performance glass as well as the security of laminated safety glass - within days of placing their order,'' he says.
SAGF is constantly working to extend its product range, improve its quality and offer even better service to its existing and ever increasing list of new customers.
''Silk screen printing designs and laminating its range of high-performance KLite glasses are just two of the many ways that this is being done. More ways exist and still more will follow as the company continues to expand to meet its customers' needs,'' he adds.
