Siemens to supply Jebel Ali plant
Dubai: The Siemens power generation group will supply three gas turbines, two steam turbines and five generators for the Jebel Ali power plant complex in Dubai, UAE, under an order worth about Dh485 million ($132.15 million).
It will also provide the electrical, instrumentation and control equipment for the project, which will have an power generation capacity of 850 MW and will desalinate 50 million gallons of seawater daily.
Italy's Enel Power, in alliance with Fisia Italimpanti, is the general contractor for the Jebel Ali project, expected to cost 500 million euros ($464 million).
The Jebel Ali Unit K is scheduled to be commissioned in mid-2002 and will be operated in base-load duty. The electricity will be fed into the grid operated by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), which will also operate the plant.
This is the second power plant project for Siemens PGG.The company along with Hanjung is involved in Abu Dhabi's Al Taweelah 2 combined-cycle station with a seawater desalination plant. The gas turbines have entered commercial operation and the plant will be ready by September.The power plant will feature three gas and two steam turbines of 710 MW, and the desalination plant will have daily production of 50 million gallons. The purchasers are Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (Adwea) and CMS Energy Corp.
Taib Bank builds new office
Manama: Taib Bank has awarded G P Zachariades (GPZ) Overseas the main construction contract for its $10 million (BD3.78 million) new corporate headquarters in Bahrain. The Taib Tower will be built in the Diplomatic Area adjacent to the bank's current location in the Iran Insurance Building.
The project's consultant is Ahmed Abubaker Janahi.
"Construction of the 15-storey curved glass and steel structure complex will begin shortly," said Taib vice-chairman and chief executive officer Iqbal Mamdani.
Construction is scheduled for completion in October next year. Aside from office space, the new tower will have four parking levels, a staff health club and cafeteria, a ground floor art gallery, a customer Internet centre and a children's day-care facility.
Deal inked for housing units
Doha: Qatar's Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture Ali bin Mohamed Al Khater has signed a QR22.975 million ($6.32 million) contract with a national contracting firm to construct a four-storey residential building for nurses of Al Shamal Hospital.
The project is expected to be completed by November, 2002 coinciding with the completion of the hospital itself.
