TAMEER Specialized Systems Company (Tasco), a resilient and sport flooring specialist, has newly added three important projects to the already impressive portfolio that it has built up within five years of its inception.

The Saudi-based company has recently successfully installed a play area at the Doha International Airport in Qatar.

Tasco’s managing director Sam Geha comments: “Doha International Airport has seen rapid expansion in recent years and wanted to include some play areas within the airport. Giochisport in Italy were contacted about undertaking the work and then won the contract.”

At the same time, Playtop was appointed Tasco as its new licensee for the Middle East and was contacted by Giochisport to install the play area on its behalf.

“The client was so delighted that the airport is now talking to both companies about installing a further four Playtop areas,” he says.

Meanwhile in Saudi Arabia, Tasco has completed installing a special vinyl system called Gerflor Taradouche for the burns unit at Aramco’s Dhahran Hospital – the first Taradouche system installed in the kingdom.

“It was specifically installed at the hydrotherapy shower system room where patients are subjected to hot and cold shower baths to stimulate their blood circulation. The floor and walls of the room must be protected from water ingress – hence Gerflor’s Taradouche was used,” says Geha.

Taradouche is a complete system that provides a waterproof finish in wet areas that are trafficked barefoot. The system comprises a special vinyl that is installed on the floor and walls of a room and an embossed layer designed specifically for wet areas. The seams are then welded to provide total protection from water ingress.

Taradouche’s floor covering is a flexible homogeneous calendered compacted floor covering sheet, which is anti-bacterial and fungicidal; while the Taradouche wall mural comprises a transparent vinyl wear layer combined with a colour-blended flexible vinyl underlayer.

Another key project completed recently by Tasco in the kingdom was the supply and installation of a wooden sports floor for a gymnasium in a private villa for the ruling family. It was assigned the job by Alyoussfieh Construction Company, the contractor on the project.

The company installed a maple wood sports flooring called Bio-Channel Classic system by Robbins at the gymnasium.

This system combines the structural and dimensional stability of an anchored flooring system with the safety and comfort of resilient sports flooring. A plywood sleeper floats on 11-mm bio-pads with a steel channel that is anchored to the concrete floor. A uniform playing surface with no dead spots is assured as is the right amount of deflection and shock absorption, says Geha.

A high-quality top coat varnish is applied to the maple flooring to provide it with protection and a high gloss finish.

Other major projects it has completed recently include the Princess Nora University (PNU) in Riyadh, which called for more than 40,000 sq m of specialty finishes for sport floors and walls and accessories for the gymnasiums; the King Saud Abdulaziz University campuses in Jeddah, Al Ahsa and Riyadh; Saudi Aramco’s Oncology Treatment Centre in Dhahran, which involved the installation of specialty vinyl over an area of 1,831 sq m.
