Black & Veatch wins SWCC contract

Black & Veatch, a leading player in the infrastructure sector, said it has won a contract from Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) for a major desalination project in Jeddah.

The company has been roped in by SWCC as engineering and design consultant for the Jeddah Four project, which will enhance water resources for the city’s five million people by creating a 400-megalitres-per-day (mld) reverse osmosis (RO) plant.

The Jeddah Four scheme will be tendered on an engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) basis. Black & Veatch will be responsible for studies of site and adjacent sea conditions, conceptual process and engineering design, and preparation of tender documents.

K.Mix procures KiCE plant

K.Mix for Cement Products, a leading readymix supplier in Saudi Arabia, said it has selected batching plant from KiCE Construction Equipment for its projects in Yanbu in the Western Province of the kingdom.

“Once operational, the high-capacity batching plant will supply readymix that will meet our project needs,” said Khaled Al Hamdi, the owner of K.Mix.

The Saudi-based KiCE Construction Equipment specialises in the manufacture of equipment for concrete and block production.

The C type batching plant incorporates plant automation solutions, allowing easy supervision of the work status, stated Hamdi.

The plant features aggregate batching, cement weighing, water feeding, weighing, admixture feeding, and computer control systems, he added.

Hyundai wins SEC contract

Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company (Hyundai E&C) South Korea’s number two builder, said it has won a $126-million project from Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to lay power transmission lines in Saudi Arabia.

Hyundai E&C will build 249 km of a 380-kV transmission line throughout the Saudi capital of Riyadh, the South Korean builder said.

Construction is expected to take about 24 months, according to the company, which said it currently has a total of 13 projects worth about $1.4 billion under way in the country.

57m tonnes of cement produced

Saudi Arabia, the largest cement producer in the GCC, produced over 57 million tonnes of cement in 2014, according to a report.

The kingdom, which recorded a 33.2 per cent capacity expansion in the cement sector in the last five years, is among the top 10 cement producers in the world, the Arab News report said.

Almost the entire cement production (98.8 per cent) of the sector is being consumed within the country due to heavy infrastructural development.
