Shaw awes

Noble Materials is customisable in more than 280 colours.

As a vertically integrated manufacturer, Shaw Contract Group gives its customers the best products at competitive prices

Shaw Contract Group, one of the largest manufacturers of carpet floor coverings, including carpet tiles, broadloom and resilient products, is executing projects worth $2.2 million in the GCC region.

These include the University of Dubai in Academic City, Bukhatir Women’s College in Sharjah, Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi, all in the UAE; Al Jaber Hospital in Kuwait; Qatar University Housing in Qatar; and King Faisal University and Apple offices in Riyadh, all in Saudi Arabia.

According to Andrew Jackson, marketing director EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), among the most interesting projects being handled by the company is the housing facilities for Qatar University, where the company’s unique hexagon tiles have been selected for the dormitories.

“The Incubation Centre at Dubai Silicon Oasis is another interesting project that is making innovative use of our designs and colours by combining our carpet and resilient products in some areas,” he continues.

Shaw Contract Group is also working on some custom designs for a heritage site project in Abu Dhabi.

With offices in Dubai and distributors throughout the region, Shaw Contract Group has been operating in the Middle East for more than 10 years. The company caters to all sectors and has a dedicated hospitality division and a global accounts team.

Jackson comments: “Shaw Contract Group can assist in the design and development of interior schemes. As a vertically integrated manufacturer, we are self-sufficient in the manufacturing of our products. Rarely do we have to rely on third parties, which means designers, installers and clients can get the best possible product at a competitive price.

Shaw Contract Group’s latest design award-winning collection is Noble Materials, which was named Best Flooring in the BDNY 2015 Product Competition.

To create this collection, Shaw designers studied the charts and diagrams that ancient alchemists meticulously plotted in their quest to transform base metals into noble metals, such as gold, silver and copper, explains Jackson. Layered in luxury, modern marquetry is interpreted via pattern and data-inspired inlays for an exquisite flooring statement.

This hospitality custom carpet collection combines movement and texture to create a surprising effect. For instance, gold veining builds scale in a vast lobby, while sleek stonework shifts and merges down the corridor.

Shown in tones of deep greys and navy with a gold metallic accent, the tufted carpet collection is customisable in more than 280 colours. With multiple field, broadloom, rug and corridor patterns, plus a collection of 24 inch by 24 inch carpet tiles, the collection’s colour palette and pattern scale can be changed to create customisable looks.

The broadloom and tile products in this collection are Cradle to Cradle Bronze certified and are assessed for human health. Made with EcoSolution Q nylon and EcoWorx Tile, these products are recyclable, contribute to Leed (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and are backed by an environmental guarantee. Additionally, these products provide superior durability and style. Shaw’s lifetime commercial warranty covers abrasive wear, tuft-bind, edge ravel and delamination.

“All of our collections are tested in accordance with the US and European quality standards. As one of the most environmentally-driven manufacturers in the world, Shaw Contract Group recycles more carpet than anyone else in the world. We run a free takeback and recycling scheme for Shaw Contract Group carpet product. All that a client needs to do is contact us and we will collect and recycle used Shaw carpet at no cost.”

He adds: “We are also passionate about cradle-to-cradle, sustainable manufacturing, and green buildings. With 95 per cent of our collection rated Cradle to Cradle Silver, we are promoting the importance of material health, environmental specification and delivering value to the project team.”

Jackson says the company has witnessed steady business over the past few years. “As an established interiors market, the region offers us lots of opportunity. We have invested in our Mena (Middle East and North Africa) team in the past 18 months and recruited more people. We want to ensure that we are focused on the areas of the market that we are targeting,” he indicates, adding that a bigger team enables the company to handle more projects.

“Our hospitality team is busy assisting in the design of bespoke product for a variety of premium and mid-range hospitality clients. With more resources, we are able to offer more support to design teams and clients,” he concludes.
