Kuwait plans to build an eco-friendly water treatment plant with a capacity of 400,000 cu m per day in South Al Mutalaa, said a report.

The plant will have features that are not normally seen in conventional treatment plants, the Al Jarida reported, citing a senior official of Ministry of Public Works.

“This plant will be environmentally friendly and the energy used to operate it will be produced by the plant itself,” said Abdul Mohsen Al Enazi, the assistant officer of sanitary engineering sector in the Ministry of Public Works.

The project includes the design and construction of a 16-MW power transformer station a control centre, a 40-km pipeline to a nature reserve for birds, and another pipeline to South Al Mutalaa’s dams, for irrigating the main roads around the city.

Tender documents will be out soon.

The winning bidder will be responsible for conducting a study on the project apart from the design, construction, operation and repair of the plant.
