INTERNATIONAL law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has advised industrial development and investment company Abu Dhabi Basic Industries Corporation (Adbic) on its joint venture agreement with Midal Cables to establish a $100-million aluminium rod and conductor plant.
Construction of the aluminium plant will begin in the first quarter of 2010 at Khalifa Port and Industrial Zone in Taweelah, Abu Dhabi. The state-of-the-art plant will produce 150,000 tonnes per annum of aluminium products, including aluminium rod and aluminium electrical overhead conductors, to serve as feedstock to further Abu Dhabi’s downstream industries and to be exported internationally. Freshfields’ team in Abu Dhabi is led by partner Charles July, who heads the firm’s Abu Dhabi office, and senior associate William Breeze. The firm has offices in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and in the UAE. It has more than 40 lawyers working in the Middle East.
