BAHRAIN

Diyar Al Muharraq – Masterplan

Owner: Kuwait Finance House (KFH)

Budget: $2.2 billion

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a 12-sq-km new island located north of Bahrain International Airport in Muharraq. It will include 30,000 residential units set in abundant landscaping, a number of international five-star hotels, a large shopping mall, car-parks, a business district and light logistic and support area.

Update: Tenders for the first 500 residential units and infrastructure work are expected to be issued this month (December). Construction work will start in February next year.

Bahrain Bay Development – Phase Three – Raffles City

Owner: CapitaLand

Budget: $630 million

Scope of work: The project calls for design and construction of a 288,000-sq-m mixed-use development at Bahrain Bay in Manama. It will include three residential iconic towers, 12 penthouses, 50 landscaped sky villas, high-end retail outlets and food and beverage facilities, as well as 200 five-star serviced apartments. The residential towers will have 34, 37 and 41 storeys respectively, with 160 apartments offering one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Recreational amenities include swimming pools and games rooms, a fully-equipped fitness centre with steam and sauna room, spa areas, squash courts, a clubhouse with multi-purpose and function rooms and children’s playgrounds.

Update: Tenders have not been issued yet for the main contract.

Diyar Al Muharraq – Phase One – Infrastructure

Owner: Kuwait Finance House (KFH)

Budget: $400 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of water, electricity and sewerage networks and internal roads and bridges for the 6-sq-km first phase of the Diyar Al Muharraq mixed-use development off the coast of Muharraq.

Update: Detail design work is in progress on the development. Tenders for the main contract will be issued next month.

Salmabad Township

Owner: Bahrain Ministry of Works

Budget: $260 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a new town situated to the south of Salmabad. The scope of work includes 850 apartments, schools, mosques and commercial outlets.

Update: Construction work is scheduled to complete next March.

Diyar Al Muharraq – Phase One – Dredging & Reclamation – Stage One

Owner: Kuwait Finance House (KFH)

Budget: $203 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the dredging and placement of 35 million cu m of marine borrow material to reclaim 6 million sq m for the Diyar Al Muharraq mixed-use development.

Update: Completion of work is expected in March next year.

Amwaj Gateway

Owner: Amwaj Gateway Development Company (AGDC)

Budget: $200 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a mixed-use development consisting of six 20-storey towers over an area of 360,000 sq ft at the Amwaj Islands off the coast of Muharraq. It will include a total of 550 different residential units, a five-star Royal Tulip Hotel and Spa occupying two central towers of the development and a proportion of the villas and offering 300 keys of deluxe rooms and suites, and 40 luxurious villas as well as serviced apartments, restaurants, commercial outlets, swimming pools, gymnasium and a private beach.

Update: Construction work is in progress with completion expected in June next year.

Diyar Al Muharraq – Phase One – 500 Residential Units

Owner: Kuwait Finance House (KFH)

Budget: $200 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of 500 residential units that will form part of Diyar Al Muharraq development as well as associated facilities.

Update: Detailed design work is in progress on the development. Tender for the main contract will be issued this month with construction work to start in February next year with completion in December 2011.

Diyar Al Muharraq – Phase One – Dredging & Reclamation – Stage Two

Owner: Kuwait Finance House (KFH)

Budget: $190 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the dredging and placement of 45 million cu m of marine borrow material to reclaim 6 million sq m of Diyar Al Muharraq mixed-used development.

Update: About 60 per cent of reclamation work is complete.

Fontana Towers

Owner: The Developers Company

Budget: $150 million

Scope of work: The project in Juffair calls for the design and construction of four interconnected waterfront residential of 35 storeys each, housing 498 apartments and four luxury duplex penthouses. It also includes an exclusive health club for women with a well-equipped gymnasium, an indoor swimming pool and children’s water park, an outdoor swimming pool and 600 covered car parking spaces. The apartments will consist of a range of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units.

Update: Construction work will be complete in June next year.

King Hamad General Hospital

Owner: Bahrain Ministry of Works and Housing – Bahrain Ministry of Health

Budget: $130 million

Scope of work: The scope of work includes the design and construction of a 312-bed hospital in Muharraq. It will comprise three interconnected, four-storey blocks and a car-parking area to accommodate 950 vehicles. The hospital will have a built-up area of 63,000 sq m while the development area will be 227,000 sq m. The project includes an accident and emergency department, an intensive care unit, operation theatres, an emergency section, water and physiotherapy sections, in and out-patients clinics and services and a conference room which can house 250 people.

Update: About 95 per cent of construction work is finished with completion expected in April next year.

Bahrain Bay Development – Shaza Islamic Hotel

Owner: Bahrain Bay Development

Budget: $100 million

Scope of work: The project will involve the construction of a five-star Islamic hotel that will form part of Bahrain Bay Development. The hotel will comprise 220 rooms and cover an area of approximately 5,000 sq m.

Update: Tenders have not yet been issued for the main contract.

Al Areen Desert Spa and Resort – Al Areen Homes

Owner: Abu Dhabi Investment House (ADIH)

Budget: $32 million

Scope of work: The project will involve the construction of a 20,000-sq-m residential development that will be part of Al Areen Development in Manama. It will include 40 luxurious two-storey deluxe villas in different sizes range from 300 to 450 sq m, each with a private swimming pool, car-park and a garden.

Update: Structure and electrical works are complete. Finishing and interior is going on.

KUWAIT

Central Bank of Kuwait Headquarters

Owner: Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK)

Budget: $414 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of new headquarters for the Central Bank of Kuwait and a multi-storey car-park in the Sharq area covering an area of 26,000 sq m. The office building consists of three basements, a ground floor, and 41 upper floors with a total built-up area of 75,000 sq m. The car-park consists of three basements, a ground floor, and four upper floors with total built-up area of 65,000 sq m.

Update: Concreting work is ongoing on the development.

InterContinental Hotel & Tower

Owner: Al Emad Real Estate Company

Budget: $183 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a 70-storey high-rise hotel and commercial tower on Ahmed Al Jaber Street, in the heart of the Kuwait Financial District. The first 25 typical levels will be used as the hotel guest-room floors and the upper floors as offices. The new six-star hotel has 200 guest rooms and 20 luxurious guest suites (most of which will have a sea view), a health club, swimming pool, multi-specialty restaurants, hi-tech meeting rooms and banqueting halls, high-speed elevators and car-parking facilities. The total built-up area of the development will be 85,000 sq m. The scope of work also includes a commercial mall.

Update: Construction work is in progress on the development with completion in December next year.

Police Academy

Owner: Kuwait Ministry of Public Works (MPW)

Budget: $160 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of 19 three-storey buildings located on a 300,000-sq-m site in the Mubarikiya area of Kuwait. It will comprise state-of-the-art administrative and educational facilities for teaching of police law, science and training. It will provide dormitory facilities for 1,200 students and 165 trainees. The complex will also include a mosque, auditorium, a library, stadium, dining areas, central plant, combat village, obstacle course, wood court, parade area, volley and basketball playgrounds, roads, parking areas, paving, landscaping, fencing, gates with observation towers, external services and security system.

Update: Concreting and infrastructure work is in progress on the development. Completion is expected in November 2011.

OMAN

GCC Railway

Owner: Oman Ministry of Transport & Communications

Budget: $7 billion

Scope of work: It includes construction of the 230-km Sohar-Muscat, 560-km Muscat-Duqm and 580-km Duqm-Salalah railway lines which will link with the GCC railway.

Update: Feasibility for Phase One (Batinah railway network) is due completion by the year-end. The engineering design consultancy contract is expected to be awarded by June next year.

GCC Railway – Phase One

Owner: Oman Ministry of Transport & Communications

Budget: $3 billion

Scope of work: It includes construction of the 400-km Batinah railway network, which is made of three sections – 260 km from Barka to Khatmat Malaha; 30 km from Barka to Rusayl; and 110 km from Sohar to Al Buraimi.

Update: Feasibility for Phase One of Oman railway (Batina railway network) is due completion by the year-end. The engineering design consultancy contract is expected to be awarded by June next year.

Tilal Al Khuwair

Owner: Al Madinah Real Estate

Budget: $1 billion

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a integrated residential, commercial and tourism development in Khuwair in Muscat. It consists of four major components – a) Muscat Grand Mall, which will be constructed on a 61,000-cu-m plot on two levels, and house world-class shopping facilities with food courts, restaurants and recreational areas; b) Tilal Offices including 40,000 sq m of luxurious high-tech offices on five different levels on top of the shopping mall; c) Tilal Residence including 180 one, two and three bedroom luxurious apartments with a sea view situated on five different levels on top of the shopping mall.

Update: Construction work is in progress on the development. Completion is expected in April next year.

Batinah Expressway – Sections One, Two and Three

Owner: Oman Ministry of Transport & Communications

Budget: $200 million

Scope of work: The project calls for design and construction of a 275-km expressway, extending from Muscat Expressway to Halban near Naseem Garden on Oman’s border with the UAE at Khatmat Malaha. Sections One and Two measure 180 km and Section Three measures 85 km.

Update: Design work on the development is in progress.

Maritime College

Owner: Oman Ministry of Manpower

Budget: $35 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a new maritime college in Sohar, on a nine-hectare plot close to the waterfront and next to the Sohar Industrial Complex. The scope of work includes classrooms, workshops, simulators, auditorium, accommodation, sports hall including swimming pool and a firefighting centre. The building will have the capacity of approximately 1,500 students.

Update: Construction work is in progress on the development. Completion is expected in August next year.

QATAR

Education City Development – Sidra Medical & Research Centre

Owner: Qatar Foundation-Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (JV)

Budget: $2.3 billion

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a nine-storey 380-bed specialty teaching hospital at the Education City, providing medical care, a medical training and research centre and treatment resources situated. It will be a world-class women and paediatrics hospital providing clinical care, teaching and research. The built-up area of the hospital will be 98,000 sq m. the scope of work also includes 60,000 sq m of car parking area.

Update: Construction work is in progress on the development. Completion is expected in 2012.

Education City Development – Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC)

Owner: Qatar Foundation

Budget: $1.2 billion

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a six-storey convention centre – 250-m long and 110-m wide – with a basement. The project will have a built-up area of approximately 150,000 sq m of which 60,000 sq m will consist of reinforced concrete and 90,000 sq m of structured steel. The centre will comprise a 2,500-seat auditorium, 500-seat theatre, 4,000-seat multi-purpose hall, breakout room and smaller meeting rooms. The main feature of the building will be the Sidra Tree situated at the front of the development.

Update: Construction work is in progress on the development. Completion is expected in 2011.

Wakrah Hospital

Owner: Public Works Authority (Ashghal)

Budget: $514 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a 321-bed hospital in the southern area of Qatar. The hospital, covering an area of 303,533 sq m, will consist of a six-storey central block and three large, low-rise structures.

Update: Construction work is in progress on the development with completion in June next year.

Residential Complex – Phase Three

Owner: Ezdan Real Estate Company

Budget: $213 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of four residential complexes comprising 3,325 residential units (apartments and villas) in Al Wakrah area.

Update: Completion of work is expected next year.

Residential Complex – Phase One

Owner: Ezdan Real Estate Company

Budget: $200 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of five residential complexes, with 3,075 residential units (apartments and villas), in Al Wakrah area.

Update: Construction work is in completion stages.

Ezdan – Al Gharafa Mall

Owner: Ezdan Real Estate Company

Budget: $200 million

Scope of work: The project calls for design and construction of a 66,046-sq-m multipurpose mall at Al Gharafa area. The scope of work includes 89 shops, 17 department and anchor stores, 11 cafés and food stalls, four cinemas, 3D Imax theatre, ice skating and roller skating rink, theme park, a 1,549-slot car-parking area and a food court. The total built-up area of the development will be 124,170 sq m.

Update: Construction work is in progress on the development with completion in 2011.

Residential Complex in Al Wakrah – Phase Two

Owner: Ezdan Real Estate Company

Budget: $167 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of four residential complexes with 2,589 residential units (apartments and villas) in Al Wakrah area.

Update: Completion of work is expected next year.

Education City Development – Georgetown University School of Foreign Service

Owner: Qatar Foundation

Budget: $165 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a School of Foreign Services that will form part of the Education City development. The school will have a built-up area of 50,000 sq m and will include offices, IT services, a library, classrooms and a car park.

Update: Construction work is in progress on the development. Completion is expected in March next year.

Residential Complex in Al Wakrah – Phase Four

Owner: Ezdan Real Estate Company

Budget: $114 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of three residential complexes, including 1,767 residential units (apartments and villas) in Al Wakrah area.

Update: Completion of work is scheduled next year.

Ezdan – North Compound

Owner: Ezdan Real Estate Company

Budget: $100 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a residential compound along the North Road Highway. The scope of work includes 92 villas, 117 row houses, eight two-storey buildings with 16 apartments, a hospital, hotel, clubhouse, swimming pool, super market, playing area and a mosque.

Update: Ezdan real estate is planning to build North Compound along the North Road Highway.

SAUDI ARABIA

GCC Railway

Owner: GCC Secretariat General

Budget: $14 billion

Scope of work: The GCC railway will run 4,000 km along the coast of the Arabian Gulf. The ends are in Muscat, Oman, and Kuwait City, Kuwait, passing through Saudi Arabia and the UAE with an option for Saudi Arabia to Manama in Bahrain and 110 km from Saudi Arabia to Doha in Qatar. The proposed full network also includes a line from Turkey all the way south along the Red Sea to Yemen passing through Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. The proposed full network is 16 lines totalling 19,000 km.

Update: Feasibility for Phase One of the Oman railway (Batina railway network) is due for completion by the year-end. The engineering design consultancy contract is expected to be awarded by next June.

Princess Norah University – Package Three – Infrastructure

Owner: Saudi Arabia Ministry of Higher Education – Saudi Arabia Ministry of Finance (JV)

Budget: $2.134 billion

Scope of work: The package entails all infrastructure work for Princess Norah University including connection of roads, electricity, water, traffic devices, parking area, network and drainage facilities. The development covers 8 million sq m.

Update: Infrastructure work has commenced and is on schedule.

Princess Norah University – Monorail

Owner: Saudi Arabia Ministry of Higher Education – Saudi Arabia Ministry of Finance (JV)

Budget: $1 billion

Scope of work: The project calls for design and execution of a railway network as part of Princess Norah University in Riyadh. The network will be 11 km in length to link facilities at the university.

Update: Construction work has been started by the joint venture of Mitsubishi Corporation and Saudi Binladin Group.

King Khalid University (KKU) City – Faculty Accommodation

Owner: King Khalid University (KKU)

Budget: $1 billion

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of faculty accommodation buildings as part of King Khalid University (KKU) City in Abha. The project will include 172 buildings, six to seven storeys high. The scope of work also includes two mosques that will accommodate 2,000 worshippers.

Update: Award for the main construction contract has been delayed. Construction is expected to start early next year.

Ras Al Zour Port – Marine Works

Owner: Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden)

Budget: $700 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a port to serve the Ras Al Zour industrial zone in the Eastern Province. The scope of work includes the dredging of a 15-m-deep channel and a port basin. The berthing facilities will be able to take containers of up to 70,000 dead weight tonnes (DWT) and built to import bauxite, process chemicals and other equipment required for the company’s proposed aluminium smelter and export alumina, aluminium and other mineral products from Maaden Projects. The project will include three berths to handle general, dry bulk and liquid cargo.

Update: Construction work is progressing as per schedule.

Hail University – Staff & Faculty Accommodation

Owner: Saudi Arabia Ministry of Higher Education

Budget: $600 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of faculty accommodation buildings, including apartments and villas, at Hail University.

Update: Abdul Rahman Saad Al Rashid & Sons (Artar) is still waiting to handover the project site.

Taif University – Faculty Accommodation

Owner: Saudi Arabia Ministry of Higher Education

Budget: $600 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of faculty accommodation buildings as part of Taif University.

Update: Hadeim For Contracting has been awarded the main contract. Construction work is expected to start early next year.

Makkah Clock Tower

Owner: The High Commission for The Development of Makkah Province

Budget: $500 million

Scope of work: The project calls for design and construction of the largest clock tower in the world to be built in Makkah at a height of 577 m. The name of Allah will be inscribed on each of the four clock faces. Two lifts will take visitors to a balcony with a width of 5 m below the clocks.

Update: The project is progressing as per schedule.

Taif Industrial City – Phase One

Owner: Taif Chamber of Commerce & industry

Budget: $500 million

Scope of work: The project calls for design and construction of Phase One of an industrial city in north of Taif. The project will be built on an area of 12 million sq m.

Update: Bids have been submitted for the main construction package.

The Northern Border University – Faculty Accommodation

Owner: Saudi Arabia Ministry of Higher Education

Budget: $400 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of faculty accommodation buildings as part of the Northern Border University in Arar.

Update: The main construction contract is still to be awarded.

Information Technology City – Masterplan

Owner: Public Pension Agency (PPC)

Budget: $365 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of an Information Technology City in the Nakheil area of Riyadh over an area of 800,000 sq m. It will comprise 21 buildings including four high-rise towers, residential buildings, a convention centre and a hotel. The scope of work also includes offices, a library, a research and development complex, a sports club, and staff housing for staff working in companies located in the park.

Update: Infrastructure work for the first phase of the Information Technology City has been completed.

King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) Expansion Project – Hajj Terminal Upgrade

Owner: Saudi Arabia General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA)

Budget: $250 million

Scope of work: The project calls for expanding and upgrading the Hajj terminals and facilities at King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah. The project will be carried out in two phases. Phase One includes Hajj halls expanding the area from 30,000 to 90,000 sq m; services buildings area from 20,000 to 40,000 sq m; six to 10 aircraft bridges; six to 14 gates; 72 to 136 passport counters; 96 to 140 flight counters; luggage conveyor from 480 to 1,800 m; air-conditioned floor area from 28,000 to 85,000 sq m; upgrading of 260,000 sq m public area (plaza); upgrading of 16 open waiting areas (400 people each); prayer rooms from six to 16; food court area from 3,500 to 8,000 sq m; and shopping outlets area from 2,000 to 12,000 sq m. Phase Two includes expansion of areas Six and Seven for large aircraft; closed passenger bridges to connect the eastern and western halls; and upgrading of the western Hajj halls. The project aims to increase handling capacity from 1,250 to 3,500 passengers per hour.

Update: Project completion is expected late this year.

Medical City – Phase One

Owner: Saudi Arabia Ministry of Health

Budget: $160 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a 900-bed medical city in Jizan including a 200-bed hospital, psychology hospital, centre for treatment, a college each for boys and girls.

Update: About 60 per cent of work has been completed.

Jizan University – Staff & Faculty Accommodation – Phase One

Owner: Jazan University

Budget: $146 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of 20 villas for faculty accommodation and buildings for staff accommodation including other related facilities at Jizan University.

Update: Foundation work is in progress.

Jizan University – Masterplan

Owner: Jizan University

Budget: $134 million

Scope of work: The project calls for design and construction of a 9 million sq m integrated university complex in Jizan featuring 25 colleges for 45,000 students in total. Each college will have a built-up area of 30,000 sq m and a capacity for 3,000 students. The development includes a 500-bed university hospital and staff, faculty and student accommodation. There would also be a medical college each for men and women, and community, science, engineering, computer science colleges, a grand mosque and all other related facilities and infrastructure. The medical college will have a four-storey building and will cover an area of approximately 13,000 sq m.

Update: Bids have been submitted for the medical college. The lowest bidder for the main construction contract is Hasan Hadi Establishment For Contracting followed by Bin Jarallah Establishment Trading and General Contracting.

UAE

Yas Island Development – Abu Dhabi – Masterplan

Owner: Aldar Properties

Budget: $33.785 billion

Scope of work: The project calls for the construction of a mixed-use tourist development, including a motor racing circuit, hotels, residential space, beaches, marinas, retail space, golf facilities, and equestrian facilities as well as a Ferrari theme park located along the coast of Abu Dhabi. The retail areas will occupy an area of 300,000 sq m and the island will have a total development area of 2,500 hectares, which is approximately one-third the size of the island of Abu Dhabi. It will also feature a beachfront shoreline of approximately 32 km.

Update: Depa has completed the fit-out works on the hotels on Yas Island development.

Al Ghadeer – Abu Dhabi – Masterplan

Owner: Sorouh Real Estate Company

Budget: $5.334 billion

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a major 3 million sq m mixed-use development located at Saih as Sidirah on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai border. It will comprise recreational facilities such as retail outlets and hotels, outdoor sporting facilities, restaurants and cafes. The development will include three schools.

Update: Sorouh Real Estate invited contractors to submit their bids by November 15 for an infrastructure contract at Al Ghadeer project.

Dubailand – Remraam Project – Masterplan

Owner: Mizin

Budget: $2.913 billion

Scope of work: The project will involve the construction of a mixed-use development next to Arabian Ranches and adjacent to the golf courses of Golf City. The project will be developed in two phases. Phase One comprises seven-storey low-rise buildings offering 2,090 units. The 5.23-million-sq-ft project includes parks, swimming pools, gym and health clubs, sauna and steam rooms, tennis and basketball courts, walking paths, children’s playing areas and open spaces for recreation. The community will also offer a full-fledged mall, nurseries and parking facilities.

Update: The superstructure is 30 per cent complete.

Khalifa Port & Industrial Zone (formerly known as Mina Zayed Port) – Masterplan

Owner: Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC)

Budget: $2.5 billion

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a 137-sq-km port at Taweelah between Abu Dhabi and Dubai for containers with capacity rising to 22 million containers and 35 million tonnes of cargo. The project will comprise redevelopment of more than 100 million sq km of industrial zone, 2.6-million-sq-m marine platform, 32-km quay wall, 7.3 km of breakwaters, 4.6-km causeway and commercial, educational and residential areas.

Update: Alumco Group has been awarded the contract to provide aluminium facades for Meena Plaza, which forms part of the project.

Al Mashtal Mixed-use Development

Owner: Sorouh Real Estate Company

Budget: $1.5 billion

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a 790,162 sq m mixed-use development located near the business district in Abu Dhabi. It will comprise three 18- to 21-storey offices towers, seven 23 to 25-storey residential towers, entertainment, two-storey retail podium, five-star hotel, serviced apartments and 224,000 sq m parking space.

Update: Construction work on the project has been delayed.

Dubailand – Remraam Project – Packages One and Two (Residential)

Owner: Mizin

Budget: $815 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of 100 apartment buildings which will form part of Remraam Project within the Dubailand scheme. It will comprise building ranging from four to seven storeys and with a total built-up area of 650,000 sq m.

Update: The superstructure is 30 per cent complete.

Etihad Towers

Owner: Sheikh Suroor bin Mohamed Al Nahyan

Budget: $681 million

Scope of work: The project involves the construction of a mixed-use development on a site opposite the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi with a total built-up area of about 519,000 sq m. The project includes five towers ranging in height from 53 to 77 floors including one office tower, three residential towers, a hotel and service apartments. It also includes an extensive retail podium and four basements for parking which will be able to accommodate 3,200 vehicles as well as external landscaping and marine works.

Update: Cladding work is in progress.

The Palm Jumeirah Development – Marina Residences & Townhouses

Owner: Nakheel

Budget: $544 million

Scope of work: The project will involve the construction of six 15-storey buildings comprising 940 residential apartments and 40 townhouses in total as well as all associated facilities. The project will be located within the Marina Village Centre on the Palm Jumeirah Development scheme in Dubai.

Update: The project, which has been partly handed over, will be fully handed over early next year.

MAF – Mirdiff City Centre

Owner: Majid Al Futtaim Group of Companies

Budget: $518 million

Scope of work: The project will involve the construction of a shopping mall that will be situated on a plot on the intersection of Emirates Road and Tripoli Street in Mirdiff district. Covering a total area of 500,000 sq m, the mall will offer a gross leasable area of 183,400 sq m and feature 430 retail outlets, eight anchor stores, a 14-screen multiplex and 60 multi-cuisine restaurants and cafes in two food-courts. It will also include car-parking space to accommodate 7,000 vehicles.

Update: Construction work is 94 per cent complete. Opening of Mirdif City Centre is due on March 16 next year.

Dubai Marina Development – Ocean Heights

Owner: Damac Group Holding (Damac Properties)

Budget: $408 million

Scope of work: The project will involve the construction of a 310-m-high, 82-storey residential building comprising of 672 apartments, consisting of one to three bedrooms. Located at the Dubai Marina development, it will also include leisure facilities like a gymnasium, sauna, steam room, games room and children’s play area and a parking space for 700 cars.

Update: Construction has reached the 76th floor level of the building.

Marasy Development – Residential Buildings

Owner: International Capital Trading (ICT)

Budget: $350 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the development of two plots, with seven and one residential buildings respectively, located at Al Bateen Marina project. It will comprise 350 residential units and will offer a total built-up area of 100,000 sq m, which includes approximately of 24,000 sq m of parking area.

Update: Bids for the main construction contract are currently being evaluated.

Movenpick Deira Hotel & Centre Apartments

Owner: Asteco Property Management

Budget: $275 million

Scope of work: The project will involve the construction of a hotel and an apartment complex that will provide 240 hotel rooms and 245 serviced apartments. Located in Deira, Dubai, opposite Muraqabat police station, it will also include banquet halls, business and conference facilities, restaurants, spas, swimming pools and car parking facilities.

Update: The hotel is set to open next year.

Deerfield Town Square

Owner: Mubarak and Brother Property and Financial Investments (MBI)

Budget: $272 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a mixed-use development located in Al Bahia area of Abu Dhabi close to Dubai-Abu Dhabi Highway. It comprises commercial, retail, residential and hospitality areas. The mall will accommodate more than 200 retailers, shops, food courts, a hypermarket, coffee shops and a 12-screen multiplex. The project, covering an area of 840,000 sq m and with a total built-up area of 3.2 million sq ft, also includes offices, serviced and residential apartments and a hotel.

Update: RMJM has announced that it has completed the design of the shopping mall at Deerfield Town Square. Construction work is expected to start next year

Bab Al Qasr Hotel

Owner: Morocco General Trading and Investment Company (Emroc)

Budget: $272 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of two 37-storey towers in Abu Dhabi. The first tower will be a 408-room five-star hotel and resort, while the second will have 229 serviced apartments. The development, which includes a large shopping wing and a beach, will cover an area of approximately 12,000 sq m opposite the Emirates Palace Hotel, and have a total built-up area of 180,000 sq m.

Update: Nurol Group has been awarded the main construction contract.

Capital Centre – Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre Expansion Project – Capital Gate (Feature Tower)

Owner: Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (Adnec)

Budget: $264 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a 160-m-high, 35-storey mixed-use tower which will form part of Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre expansion scheme. It will include a luxury hotel ‘Hyatt Hotels and Resorts’ with 189 rooms (162 guestrooms and 27 suites) and 20,000 sq m of office and retail space.

Update: Tekla Middle East is to provide Tekla structures BIM (Building Information Modelling) software licences for the project.

Khalifa Port & Industrial Zone (formerly Mina Zayed Port) – Meena Plaza

Owner: Tamouh Investments

Budget: $255 million

Scope of work: The project, located at Khalifa Port, calls for the design and construction of four mixed-use towers featuring swimming pool, Jacuzzi, Cineplex, 20 different kinds of bedroom apartments and offices.

Update: Alumco Group has been awarded the contract to provide aluminium facades for Meena Plaza project.

Al Mashtal Mixed-use Development – Infrastructure

Owner: Sorouh Real Estate Company

Budget: $200 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of infrastructure work including water, power, gas, communications, sewerage, irrigation and district cooling networks, street lighting and internal roads for Al Mashtal development in Abu Dhabi.

Update: The construction start date on the project has delayed.

Redevelopment of Al Bateen District (Al Bateen Wharf) – Al Bateen Wharf Hotel

Owner: Belbadi Enterprises – Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) JV

Budget: $200 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a 15-storey, five-star hotel and a 14-storey apartment building with 400 rooms and 200 apartments at Al Bateen District in Abu Dhabi. It will cover an area of 54,000 sq m and will also include the associated facilities.

Update: Construction work is in progress by Emirates Belbadi Contracting Company.

Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Development – Park Towers

Owner: Damac Group Holding (Damac Properties)

Budget: $163 million

Scope of work: The project will involve the construction of 36-storey twin-tower residential complex comprising 432 apartments in total, each consisting of one to three bedrooms. Forming part of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) development, it will also include leisure and entertainment facilities like a swimming pool, health club, gymnasium, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and tennis court.

Update: The building has reached the 46th floor level.

Al Fanar Towers

Owner: Escan Properties

Budget: $150 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a multi-purpose development over a 22,500-sq-m centrally located area and with sea views in the emirate of Fujairah. It will include a three-level shopping mall and three 30-storey towers to be used for residential, commercial and hotel purposes.

Update: Excavation and shoring is complete. Foundation has started.

Regent Emirates Pearl Hotel & Resort – Main Construction Package

Owner: Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) – Atlas Telecommunications

Budget: $136 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a five-star 47-storey hotel with 365 elegantly-styled rooms and suites complemented by 70 tastefully furnished apartments with breathtaking Arabian Gulf views. The property will have an exclusive beach club with private beach access, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a health club and a luxury spa with beautifully appointed treatment rooms. The extensive banquet and meeting facilities comprise a multipurpose ballroom, six boardrooms, and two conference rooms supported by a business centre and break out possibilities. A 20-m-high atrium will form the centre of the lobby where guests can choose to dine from six restaurants, including one on an island connected to the hotel, two lounges, four bars and a rooftop deck. The hotel will be situated on opposite the Emirates Palace Hotel along the Khalidiya coast in Abu Dhabi Corniche.

Update: Arabian Construction Company has been awarded the main construction contract.

Jumeirah Village Development – Jumeirah Village South – Emirates Gardens Two

Owner: Damac Group Holding (Damac Properties)

Budget: $130 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of three buildings (Maple, Magnolia and Mulberry), located in Jumeirah Village South. It will comprise two ground-floor levels plus four storeys, and will offer studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments. The buildings will have a built-up area of approximately 100,000 sq ft and will include associates facilities.

Update: Finishing work is in progress.

Dubai Marina Development – Dubai Marina Mall Hotel

Owner: Emaar Properties

Budget: $125 million

Scope of work: The project will involve the construction of a new luxury five-star hotel situated near to Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City and Jebel Ali Free Zone. The hotel will include 442 rooms as well as leisure and entertainment and business facilities. It will form a part of Dubai Marina Mall scheme. The total built-up area of the development will be approximately 150,000 sq ft.

Update: Final works are under progress.

Redevelopment of Al Bateen District (Al Bateen Wharf) – Masterplan

Owner: Belbadi Enterprises – Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) JV

Budget: $116 million

Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a 54,000-million-sq-m redevelopment of Al Bateen District in Abu Dhabi. The site will be known as Al Bateen Wharf. The development will include San Francisco-style Fishermen’s Marina and Al Bateen Wharf Hotel. The 400-room hotel will also have a serviced residential wing with 200 apartments.

Update: Emirates Belbadi Contracting Company is currently engaged in building the project.
