Construction of two major complexes involving a total built-up area of more than 1 million sq m is no mean task. The challenge was further compounded by the fact that they were to be completed at the same time, says Real Estate Construction and Fabrication Company (Recafco), the main contractor on the projects.
Recafco rose to the challenge and has achieved its target, thanks to the cooperation between all the subcontractors involved in their construction, says the Kuwait-based company.
The complexes – the College of Health Science and the Industrial Training Institute and car-park building for the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) – were completed last month.
'It was also a challenging job in terms of volume of concrete and steel used,” says Fazil Khalid Al Abdul Razzak, general manager. “At the peak of the construction more than 2,000 workers were on site.”
The company is currently engaged in the construction of four school buildings at different locations in Kuwait for the Public Authority for Housing Care (PAHC) and erecting the steel structure of a warehouse for Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC).
Incorporated in 1976, Recafco is registered as a class one contractor with the Central Tenders Committee of Kuwait. Some of the prestigious projects completed by the company include:
In addition, the company operates one of the leading precast concrete production factories in Mina Abdulla.
The factory, which is equipped with modern production facilities, spreads over an area of 60,000 sq m. Its range of products includes precast prestressed/post-tensioned beams used in long-span structures such as expressway bridges; walls, columns, beams, double-tee slabs used in commercial, industrial and school buildings; marine precast elements such as dolosse, slipway slabs and crest walls, for waterfront projects; and architectural cladding for various prestigious buildings such as ministry complexes.
“Recafco strongly believes in high-quality construction delivered in time and is committed to working safely,” says Razzak. “Safety norms are strictly followed throughout its workforce.
“The company is proud of its large and dedicated workforce, controlled by experienced and well-qualified supervisors and engineers and directed by a management that is committed to customer satisfaction, quality, safety and productivity.”
