The Japanese-Turkish Metro JV (JTMJV) has appointed Atkins as design programme manager and detailed designer for its design-and-build contract covering phase one of the Dubai transit system.

JTMJV has engaged Atkins as lead consultant for all works comprising the phase one Red Line, including 26 stations (four underground), 53 km of viaducts and tunnelling and all associated infrastructure and building works.
Atkins has based its management team within JTMJV’s Dubai offices to direct and co-ordinate detailed design, including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical and infrastructure works. A large dedicated design team for the project has been mobilised in Dubai and will be supported by Atkins’ offices in the Middle East, Hong Kong and the UK.
The Red Line forms the first phase of the awaited Dh15.5 billion ($4.2 billion) Dubai metro project and is expected to be ready by September 2009. The project also includes three routes, including the Green Line, which will be operational by March 2010.
