The first phase of a BD6 million ($15.9 million) project to turn Adhari Park into a major tourist attraction has been completed.
The first phase involved the renovation of the Adhari pool and its surrounding area, and the construction of a mosque, at a cost of BD600,000.
Plans to turn the historic open-air park into a multipurpose theme park, including a roller-coaster, monorail and water park, were unveiled last year.
The project, initiated by HM King Hamad, is being overseen by the Northern Municipal Council and the Northern Municipality.
The ministry will start accepting tenders for the second phase soon. A BD330,000 renovation project will also be carried out on Umm Shuoom spring in Mahooz and the ministry will start receiving tenders this month.
The project includes building a mosque, a walkway, car parks and football and basketball grounds.
