New terminal for Cairo airport
Cairo: Lebanon’s Dar Al Handasah (Shair and Partners) on behalf of Civil Aviation Ministry/Cairo Airport Company has received tenders for the $400 million construction of terminal 3 in Cairo International airport from 12 prequalified bidders.
The project includes the construction of a third terminal, including a concourse, three skyways and ancillary buildings over a total built-up area of 164,000-sq m, provision of electromechanical works and airside, landside external works and a 22,000-sq m cargo storage complex.

Qatar marks funds for acquisition
Doha: Qatar has allocated QR1 billion ($274 million) for the acquisition of private properties for public purpose in various areas of the country.
The planned acquisitions are for the implementation of various public projects, Abdulrahman Ibrahim Al-Abdulghani, the deputy director of land acquisition department, said. Right now, all properties that fall within the precincts of the Corniche area may be subjected to acquisition, he said.
Similarly, land will be acquired in the Rumaillah area to set up the Hamad Medical City project, and the entire Al Bida area will have to be taken over.
Government acquisition will also include sites allocated to various sports clubs such as Al Sadd, Ithihad and Al Arabi, he said.

MPW invites bids for Jahra Gate
Kuwait: The Ministry of Public Works (MPW) has invited prequalified contractors to bid for package 1, known as Jahra Gate, of the KD110 million ($370 million) Ring Road extension by early February 2004.
The entire project will be done in three packages.
Work on the Jahra Gate, located north of Shuhada Street Interchange, will be finished in 46 months.
Package 2 is in the final design and tender documents will be put out in April. Package 3 connects package 1 with package 2 and is located in the business district area. It involves the construction of depressed roadways and the upgradation of existing roads at Mubarakiya suq.

Qatar allots $5bn for projects
Doha: Qatar will budget QR18.5 billion ($5.1 billion) for major projects over the next six years, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, Ali bin Saad Al Kuwari said.
Of the budgeted expenditure, QR8.5 billion would be allocated for building roads. Approximately QR5.2 billion would be set aside for buildings while sewerage works would cost QR1.8 billion, Al Kuwari said.
Another QR3 billion would be earmarked for vital facilities such as educational establishments, health centres and other major projects.
