A TOTAL of 15 Apollo Fire Detectors’ products have been independently evaluated to IEC61508 – confirming a Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 – thus establishing the functional safety of the products by illustrating how reliably and correctly they respond to inputs.

Explaining the significance of this certification, Apollo’s business innovation manager Paul Pope says: “Whilst on-site testing and maintenance is a vital component of ensuring the on-going functionality of any fire detection system, it doesn’t provide evidence that in a ‘live’ situation, equipment will function as planned. A SIL rating gives confidence that it will. Through a series of extensive evaluations, this certificating process demonstrates a product’s integrity to perform its primary function in a real-life situation.

“Evidence of this kind is particularly important in high-risk environments such as the marine and offshore industry, as well as other sectors including education and healthcare that demand a high level of functional safety.”

The 15 products have been evaluated and have been SIL2 certified include the sounder beacon base, heat detector, ionisation smoke detector, optical smoke detector, multi-sensor detector, manual call point and the manual call point (surface) from the Discovery range of high-specification analogue addressable fire detectors and alarm devices; the heat detector, ionisation smoke detector, optical smoke detector and manual call point from the XP95 Intrinsically Safe line; and the input/output unit with isolator, output unit with isolator, manual call point – surface mounting box, manual call point – isolated with surface mounting box of the XP95 range of intelligent fire detectors.

The devices are certified to be used with Apollo protocol control panels that are SIL rated.

In other developments, Eva Kosanovic has been appointed to the newly created role of head of international sales and is responsible for the expanding international sales team.

Kosanovic has been with Apollo since 2008 joining the organisation from Xyratex, a provider of data storage solutions, where she performed an account and product management role. With a strong background in bringing new products to market, Kosanovic joined Apollo as senior product manager where, amongst other achievements, she has grown the company’s sales in the US market year on year.

Commenting on the appointment, Apollo’s sales and marketing director Neil Taylor says: “Eva has extensive experience in identifying and working with potential strategic partners to enter new markets. This, combined with her exceptional understanding of developing new channels and products, makes her ideally placed to lead the international sales team as it grows throughout the next year.”
