Dynapac helps build key pipeline

Compaction work along Abu Dhabi’s 233-km-long inter-refineries pipeline project will be carried out using three purpose-ordered Dynapac compaction rollers, says a spokesman for the company.

Regular shipments of products between the Abu Dhabi and Ruwais refineries currently carried out by marine tankers is set to become a thing of the past with work just starting on the new pipeline, he adds.
Throughout construction of the pipeline, main contractor Dodsal will ensure a compacted 'bed' in the pipeline trench with three purpose-ordered Dynapac compaction rollers, ordered through its local distributor Inma Gulf Development and Construction. The pipeline link will offer improved environmental protection, safety measures and operational flexibility for Abu Dhabi Oil Refinery Company (Takreer).
The new system eliminates the need to transport products between the two refineries by marine tankers. The marine facility in Abu Dhabi refinery will be taken out of service and tankers will no longer use the Umm Al Nar channel.
Two pipelines, one 10-inch and the other 12-inch, will transport multi-products and straight-run residues from Abu Dhabi Refinery to Ruwais. A 16-inch pipeline link will also be built to provide an additional line for finished products to the distribution terminal in Mussafah.
Depending on the diameter of the pipeline, trench excavations vary from 1.5 to 2 m deep and 1 to 1.2 m width. A layer of 200 to 300 cm sand/aggregates will then be compacted to ensure a firm ‘bed’ for the pipeline.
Two Dynapac CC 122 tandem rollers and a walk-behind LP 750 duplex roller will be used for the project. The 2.6 t class Dynapac CC 122 has been designed to compact up to 240 cu m/h of soil/sand with its 1,200 mm wide drums. The LP 750 is recommended for sand and gravel sub-base and base grades and features a 500 mm drum diameter and an operating weight of 1,009 kg.
