Qatar District Cooling Company (Qatar Cool) has won a 20-year contract to supply the Dubai Towers–Doha with 6,600 tons of district cooling that will service a total area of more than 150,000 sq m.
Under the contract, the mixed-use tower will be supplied with pre-agreed chilled water quantities from state-of-the-art production facilities developed and commissioned by Qatar Cool, the sole supplier for district cooling services to the West Bay and Corniche area.
The agreement also calls for the delivery of chilled water into the building in three stages – September 2009, February 2010, and August 2010 – to meet the main contractor’s construction and commissioning activities on-site.
Qatar Cool is a joint venture owned by United Development Company (UDC) of Qatar, UAE-based Tabreed and other private investors. Qatar Cool will generate the chilled water from either of two existing plants. A third plant is planned in the same area as a result of the growing demand for district cooling.
The two independent plants will ensure continuity of supply to the tower, as well as providing back-up service during times of scheduled plant maintenance.
At 437 m, Dubai Towers-Doha will be the tallest building in Qatar, located on the West Bay corniche. To be completed in 2010, it will feature offices, serviced and unfurnished apartments, a retail boulevard, and a luxury boutique hotel.
