Saudi firm to build Syria resort

A Saudi construction company has won a $40 million contract to build a five-star hotel complex in the Mediterranean port of Latakia in Syria, a report said.

The Syrian government-owned Tishrin daily reported that the Saudi Binladin Group (SBG) will construct the Afamia tourist resort on 33,000 sq m of land in Damasrkho, a village near Latakia, 350 km northwest of Damascus.The complex will include a 289-room hotel, restaurants and a residential tower.

The SBG will begin the construction shortly, the newspaper reported. It wasn't clear when the complex will be completed.

In 1999, the Saudi group built a $5.4 million olive oil refinery plant in Idheb, 350 km north of Damascus.

Bexair signs engineering deal

Manama: Bahrain Executive Air Services Company (Bexair) has signed a contract with Mohammed Salahuddin Consulting Engineering Bureau (MSCEB) to provide engineering and overall consultancy and supervision services to build a terminal at Barhain International Airport.

The Bexair Executive Terminal project would be fast-tracked and should be ready by September, said MSCEB managing director Mohammed Salahuddin.

Bexair has received approval from the Government to establish the service from Bahrain and an agreement to this effect was signed in February.

The Bahrain-registered company was set up by Riyadh-based Arabian Support and Services Company after it signed a memorandum of understanding with Civil Aviation Affairs.

Bexair has also signed a contract with UK-based company Vector Management International, to provide specialised aviation and management consultancy services for the project.

Oman awards $37.7m contracts

Muscat: The Tender Board of Oman has awarded contracts worth RO14.58 million ($37.76 million).

These include projects to expand the GSM network in Dhofar at a cost of RO5.199 million, operate and maintain power and desalination plants in the wilayats at a cost of RO2.23 million, expand the GSM network in the Dakhliyah, Dhahirah and Sharqiyah regions at a total cost of RO2.831 million and design, supply, install, integrate, test and operate a local wireless network at a cost of RO661,000.

The board also opened bids for a project to set up Sumail power network (132 kV and 33 kV), a tender to set up Bausher power network (132 kV and 33 kV), another project to set up power networks (11 kV) at Al Ghail and Al Mansoor in the Wilayat of Rustaq and others.
