Work is under way on Abu Dhabi's multimillion-dirham project to build 15 subways at different locations on main roads.
The project is part of a Dh90 million ($24.5 million) masterplan to construct 22 subways being carried out by the Abu Dhabi Municipality. Seven subways have already been completed, a report said.
The project is expected to be completed in October 2003, according to its blueprint. The selection of sites for subways was made on the basis of a survey which identified locations with highest traffic volume and pedestrian movement, a municipality official said.
