Cooling company Tabreed is putting UAE at the forefront of the world district cooling industry by demonstrating its reliable, economic and environmentally efficient system in the latest issue of District Energy magazine.

District Energy is produced by the International District Energy Association (IDEA), a non-profit trade association with a vision to advance global environmental quality through efficient district energy.

Tabreed, or the National Central Cooling Company (PJSC), is demonstrating how it is meeting demands for reliable cooling with economic and environmental efficiency.

Tabreed managing director and founder Dany Safi said: 'We are delighted to have the opportunity to showcase our work, through District Energy magazine, to our counterparts across the world.

'The distinctive architecture of the wind tower shows our traditional resourcefulness in counteracting our climate.

'With district cooling, Tabreed has brought this innovation to the Middle East to give real estate developers and building owners and managers a new choice for cooling their properties whilst meeting the need to reduce electricity consumption.'

District cooling provides chilled water from a cooling plant through a network of pipes to multiple residential, industrial and commercial buildings for air conditioning use. It requires less power than traditional air-conditioning, and can play a crucial role in reducing the demand for electricity in the country.

'District cooling offers a host of qualitative and economic benefits' said Safi.

Tabreed is under long-term contracts to supply district cooling to military and commercial development projects in Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Al Ain, Al Musaffah industrial area in Abu Dhabi and the Shaikh Zayed Road in Dubai.

Opportunities in Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar are also under consideration.

Established in 1998 through the efforts of the UAE Offsets Group, Tabreed is the first district cooling service provider in the Middle East region. It offers customers an integrated energy system devised to help them optimise their energy usage.
