TEREX Aerial Work Platforms (AWP), a business segment of Terex Corporation, will be showing its next generation of booms and telehandlers at this year’s Big 5 show.

Among the new products that will be introduced at the show is the Genie articulating boom ZX-135/70, another model in a series of ground-breaking aerial platform designs, as well as the SX-180 self-propelled telescopic boom.

Also featured will be the Genie compact GTH-2506 telehandler and the GTH-4018 R rotating model. “Both machines reinforce the Genie commitment to reduce the complexity and cost of telehandler ownership,” says a spokesman for Terex AWP. “With energy efficiency, simple operation and innovative serviceability features for straight-forward maintenance, our new redesigned models – soon equipped with Stage IIIA engines – will offer high performance in a complete new chassis shape and light cabin, ideal for tough work in any environments.”

Other products on the stand will include some of the best-seller Genie slab electric scissors, portable material lifts and personal vertical lifts like the famous Genie AWP Super Series, an industry favourite due to its ease of use and set-up by just one operator, convenience and low maintenance costs.

Booms

Elaborating on the new Genie booms, the spokesman says: “As the successor to the Z-135, the new ZX-135/70 has a great reputation to live up to by combining a maximum working height of 43 m, a horizontal reach of 21.3 m with exceptional up-and-over clearance second to none.

“Our exceptional new Genie SX-180 self-propelled telescopic boom, which was launched at the bauma 2013 tradeshow in Germany early this year, breaks through all industry records at 57 m working height.

“Given our ambition to remain the most advanced manufacturer in the lifting sector, these latest two additions to our large articulating and telescoping boom range include significant improvements with new features designed to make work easier, ensure fast serviceability and help take the client’s business to greater heights.”

Thanks to its patented X-chassis design and new angle sensors for precise calibration, the ZX-135/70 also makes machine set-up faster and easier than before. Featuring a wider footprint that reduces floor pressure by 30 per cent, its base assembly is equipped with solid box-section axles that pivot smoothly out on vertical mounting pins from 2.4 m to a width of 5.2 m, to adapt to multiple job site needs.

The new self-erecting jib design offers the versatile flexibility needed when height, long reach and flexible up-and-over clearance count the most. Providing the ability to extend rapidly from 3.7 m to 6.1 m when fully deployed, the ZX-135/70 offers market-leading up-and-over capabilities providing a clearance up to 23 m – the equivalent of up to approximately eight floors. This new machine is suitable in high construction applications, oil and gas, refinery and shipyard booms.

“Providing customers with a new level of aerial boom lift performance, our ZX-135 already sets a new industry standard in the large, articulated boom sector. The new boom marks the first in a whole series of other new-generation models that will be joining the Genie product family in the near future,” says Scott Krieger, senior product manager, booms and telehandlers, Terex AWP.

Telehandlers

Meanwhile, Genie has updated its GTH-2506 compact telehandler in terms of re-styled interior, high visibility and easy serviceability. High performing with its 2.5-tonne capacity and 6-m lift height in a small package, the model will be soon equipped with the Stage IIIA-compliant Deutz engine developing 55 kW of power – a 10 per cent increase over the previous model Stage IIIA which speeds operations and increases productivity.

Externally, the hydrostatic drive GTH-2506 telehandler retains its compact dimensions: below 2 m in height, 1.9 m in width and 3.84 m between the rear of the machine and the fork holder plate. The new generation gains an even tighter turning radius of 3.25 m, a higher (26 kmph) travel speed and new steel mudguards that can now accommodate the optional 18-inch tyres in place of the standard 16-inch versions which lifts the ground clearance from 33 cm to 35 cm and further increases the travel speed to 28 kmph.

Other major changes include a re-styled interior to the ROPS/FOPS (roll over protection system/falling objects protection system)-certified cab with new fabric and materials. Serviceability has also been enhanced with the hydraulic distributor repositioned for easy access and the front and rear lights are now protected by metal grills and a dense rubber bumper.

Also exhibited on the stand will be the GTH-4018 R rotating telehandler. With stabilisers deployed, the four-tonne capacity/18-m lift height rotating telehandler can place 500 kg loads at its maximum 15.5-m outreach or 2,000 kg at maximum height. It also comes with a Perkins engine, producing 99 hp.

“These latest telehandler designs continue our commitment to minimise complexity and reduce the cost of ownership,” says Gert De Boon, Terex AWP telehandler product manager, EMEAR. “Their ease of operation, small footprint, best-in-class performances and straightforward maintenance makes those new generation of telehandlers ideal for contractors and rental companies alike.”

Terex AWP will be present at Stand OS-70 at The Big 5.
