The new facility at RAK.

RAK Steel, spearheaded by Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority (Rakia), was to commence commercial production of a range of rebars for the construction industry at the end of last month, following completion of trial production.

The new energy-efficient and environment-friendly, 500,000 tonnes per year deformed steel reinforcement bar manufacturing mill has been set up with an investment of $50 million and will be the second largest producer of rebar in the UAE, says a company spokesman.
According to Dr Khater Massaad, chairman RAK Steel and CEO of Rakia: “RAK Steel will produce rebar from 8 mm to 40 mm diameter in variable lengths of 6 to 18 m to both British and American standards.”
RAK Steel uses the superior Temperit process for manufacturing rebar. “This process ensures consistent high quality, easy bendabilty, weldability and ductility – properties preferred by leading consultants and contractors,” says the spokesman.
In addition, RAK Steel’s ultra-modern quality control laboratory and strong systems ensures that all quality standards are consistently met, he adds.
With the opening of the new facility, quality rebar will now be available locally in the UAE passing on huge savings in inventory carrying costs for resellers and for building owners as well, he concludes.
