Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has awarded a Dh200 million ($54.5 million) construction contract to GDC (Gulf District Cooling) Ascon.
The deal is to set up a 40,000 refrigeration tonne (RT) district cooling plant for the Business Bay Executive Towers (BBET) in Dubai, says a spokesman for Empower.
Under the contract, GDC will complete the civil, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works as part of the construction phase of the district cooling plant.
The scope of work on the district cooling project also includes a chilled water generation plant, as well as the installation of metering and monitoring systems for BBET, which is a mixed-use community development within Business Bay.
The project is expected to be completed in 15 months with early capacity projected to be operational within 12 months.
