Kommerling of Germany has created a PVC-U window profile system that bestows attractive features to a building, whether it is of traditional or modern design.

From its outer appearance, the Eurodur Design window system shows a strong commitment to the quality of living, says a spokesman for the company.

"The inner values of the profile are just as important. They enhance our well-being and make an important contribution to the environment," he says.

The windows require little maintenance and care, provide sound and thermal insulation, are economical, create value and are resistant to decay, he continues.

Also, the profiles contain outstanding load-bearing properties, no matter how the window is designed.

"During many years of research and market experience, Kommerling has led the PVC-U window to perfection. A great deal of success of this ideal window material can be attributed to the relentless efforts of the in-house engineers to achieve perfection," says the spokesman.

"It all starts with the material selection: Kommerling has created its own mixing compound, Komalit Z, comprising PVC of the highest impact strength and stability. All raw materials are carefully tested before being used for extrusion."

The three chambers of the frame profile provide maximum thermal insulation properties, even faced with the biggest temperature differences between outside and inside. This profile system also provides a very high sound insulation level, especially important to keep out the noise in big cities or in the neighbourhood of airports or motorways, he says.

The most striking benefit of the system is the so-called sloped rebate. The bottom is inclined towards the outside by 5 degrees, thus providing a trouble-free drainage. The overlapping regions of the frame, the sash and the transome are especially accentuated by the concave roundings. The profiles which are already much narrower in their construction are thus optically further reduced in their width and get a more elegant look, says the spokesman.

All profile edges, profile corners and transition areas are rounded off to adapt to the design and construction upgrades of the complete window system, he says.

Kommerling, while designing the profile system, takes into consideration the national requirements of a market. This involves the aesthetic as well as the technical requirements such as the types of openings of windows and doors which are common in a country and the profile material itself as it has to come up to the various climatic demands.

Kommerling's large range of profiles allows to manufacture virtually any type and shape of window in order to create or maintain the facade of a typical building, whether it is modern, highrise office block or a private house that has to be renovated.

For the Middle East, the company has created the profile colour ivory, as it is in perfect harmony with the style of the traditional buildings, according to the spokesman. ''The warm colouration adapts smoothly to the general landscape and the predominant mellow colours,'' he says.

The durability and anticipated life of the PVC-U windows, subject to proper handling, installation, cleaning and lubrication of moving parts when necessary, is estimated to be far in excess of 50 years, he claims.

"The profiles are rot and vermin proof and satisfy international standards with respect to resistance by chemical attack," he adds.

Kommerling has its Middle East office in Cairo, Egypt.
