$17.8m deal for college

The General Organisation for Technical Education and Vocational Training (GOTEVOT) has signed a SR67 million ($17.8 million) contract for the construction of a polytechnic college in Baha.

It also plans to set up similar institutions in Madinah, Hail, Tabuk and Najran.

With the new contracts, the Kingdom will have a total of 16 polytechnic colleges.

The authority also signed a memorandum of understanding for educational cooperation between the Kingdom's College of Telecommunications and US-based Lucent Technologies to train students in the operation and maintenance of '5ESS' telephone exchanges.

Firm to set up water plants

Riyadh: Saudi Agriculture and Water Minister Dr Abdullah bin Muammar has signed a contract worth SR69.86 million ($18.6 million) with a Saudi firm to set up water recycling stations.

Al Suwaih Limited Company for Trade, Agriculture and Contracts will set up the stations in Houtat Bani Tamim.

The project, due to be executed within three years, would have a production capacity of 20,000 cu m per day.

Accord on two airports

Jeddah: Saudi Arabia has signed two contracts for setting up and developing airports at Dawadmi and Jizan.

The agreements with two national companies were signed by Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Second Deputy Premier, the Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General.

The Dawadmi and Jizan contracts are worth SR141.9 million ($39.7 million) and SR122.3 million, respectively.

The proposed airport at Dawadmi will include terminals for arrival and departures and a VIP lounge.

The Jizan project includes development and renovation of all public utilities and facilities, in addition to furnishing the airport.

Eni to built condensate plant

Riyadh: Italian energy group Eni announced that its Snam engineering unit had won a contract to build a gas condensate fractionation plant in Saudi Arabia.

Eni said in a statement that the 200,000-barrel-a-day plant, commissioned by the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, would produce naphtha, liquefied petroleum gas, kerosene and diesel. It will be built over 24 months adjacent to the Ras Tanura refinery.

The contract is the second won by Eni in Saudi Arabia this year.
